Job Summary and Qualifications

As a Respiratory Therapist, you’ll play an essential role in guiding patients through both routine care and critical moments. You’ll perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures while managing invasive and noninvasive ventilation across a variety of care settings. You’ll utilize reasoning ability and critical thinking to meet the individual needs of your patients, communicating effectively with physicians, managers, and families. With a focus on quality improvement and customer service initiatives, you will have the support of a collaborative team that sets you up to deliver your best care, promote facility standards, and make a lasting impact on patient health every day.

What You Will Do In This Role

● You will assess respiratory status and deliver evidence-based therapy per the plan of care across routine, intensive, and emergency settings. 

● You will administer prescribed doses of medicinal gases and aerosol medications while utilizing various types of therapeutic gas equipment. 

● You will manage invasive and noninvasive ventilation, perform arterial blood gas draws, and interpret results to safely guide patient care. 

● You will respond quickly to emergency team calls and provide immediate assistance with artificial airway placement and stabilization. 

● You will monitor, record, and communicate patient conditions, ensuring accurate documentation, charging, and electronic record keeping. 

● You will educate patients and family members to support their care plan and provide valuable clinical insight to the broader healthcare team. 

● You will provide orientation and mentoring to new staff members to help foster a supportive and collaborative team environment. 

● You will set up, operate, clean, and store respiratory therapy equipment while strictly following all infection-prevention and safety standards. 

● You will assist leadership in meeting departmental budget goals by actively assessing daily staffing needs and monitoring supply costs.

What Qualifications You Will Need

● You must be a graduate of a Respiratory Care Program accredited by the AMA and the NBRC. 

● You must hold a current Registered Respiratory Therapist or Certified Respiratory Therapist licensure by the Tennessee Board for Respiratory Care. 

● You must possess a current Basic Life Support certification at the time of hire. 

● You must obtain Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support certifications at hire or within six months of employment. 

● You should have strong interpersonal skills to successfully interact and build relationships with patients, guests, physicians, and colleagues.

 ● You need strong computer skills and demonstrated experience performing essential clinical respiratory care functions.
