Thank you for your interest in a career with Nova Southeastern University.Primary PurposeThe College of Dental Medicine at Nova Southeastern University is seeking adjunct faculty to assist with the clinical and didactic training of dental students under the direction of the Department Chair of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.Job Category:Non-ExemptPay Basis:HourlyEssential Job Functions:1. Prepare and deliver instruction to Dental students. 2. Facilitate activities in the classroom, simulation laboratory, clinic, and/or other setting(s). 3. Act as a liaison between the students and the faculty course director. 4. Provide and facilitate examinations. May include assigning grades consistent with course requirements. 5. Teaches or facilitates classes based on varied schedules to accommodate diverse student needs and to meet the expectations of the College as assigned by the designated faculty course director. 6. Follows the course curriculum as assigned. 7. Prepares assignments. 8. Evaluates student performance and learning. 9. Maintains an active classroom environment conducive to student learning and success. 10. Assess clinical education needs and patient and client teaching needs using a variety of methods. 11. Demonstrates patient care in clinical units. 12. Required to complete NSU mandatory trainings. For example, HIPAA compliance, technology training, Canvas training, etc. 13. Performs other related duties as assigned.Job Requirements:Meet minimum requirements: (Listed under titles) Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Required Education Required ExperienceRequired Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:Knowledge: 1. Dental Medicine - Comprehensive knowledge of the information/techniques needed in Dental Medicine. This includes symptoms/treatment planning. 2. Education/Training - Knowledge of principles/methods for curriculum/training design/teaching for individuals/groups, and the measurement of training effects. 3. English Language - Thorough knowledge of the structure/content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar. 4. Customer Service - General knowledge of principles/processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of user satisfaction. Skills: 1. Instructing — Teaching others how to do something 2. Critical Thinking — Using logic/reasoning to identify the strengths/weaknesses of alternative solutions/approaches to problems. 3. Judgment/Decision Making — Considering the relative costs/benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one. 4. Active Listening — Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand, asking questions as appropriate. 5. Active Learning — Understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making. 6. Complex Problem Solving — Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop/evaluate options and implement solutions. 7. Speaking — Talking to others to convey information effectively. 8. Reading Comprehension — Understanding written sentences/paragraphs in work-related documents. 9. Learning Strategies — Selecting/using training/instructional methods and procedures appropriate for the situation when learning/teaching new things. Abilities: 1. Finger Dexterity — The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects. 2. Deductive Reasoning — The ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense. 3. Inductive Reasoning — The ability to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (includes finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events). 4. Speech Clarity — The ability to speak clearly so others can understand you. 5. Fluency of Ideas — The ability to come up with a number of ideas about a topic (the number of ideas is important, not their quality, correctness, or creativity). 6. Problem Sensitivity — The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. 7. Oral Comprehension — The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences. 8. Oral Expression — The ability to communicate information/ideas in speaking so others will understand. 9. Written Comprehension — The ability to read/understand information and ideas presented in writing. 10. Written Expression — The ability to communicate information/ideas in writing Physical Requirements: 1. Speech Recognition - Must be able to identify and understand the speech of another person. 2. Speech Clarity - Must be able to speak clearly so others can understand you. 3. Near Vision - Must be able to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer). 4. Manual Dexterity 5. May be exposed to short, intermittent, and/or prolonged periods of sitting and/or standing in performance of job duties. 6. May be required to accomplish job duties using various types of equipment/supplies, to include but not limited to pens, pencils, mobile devices, and computer keyboards. 7. Travel - Must be able to travel on a daily and/or overnight basis. 8. May be required to work nights or weekends. 9.
