Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: RN Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Second Shift Hours per Shift: 36 guaranteed Experience: No experience required License: Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state Certifications: BLS Must-Have: ADN or ASN Description: The RN implements professional nursing practice centered on the patient as a whole person. The focus is on creating a caring environment centered on healing and wellness. Nursing practices are based on evidence and current research, as well as policies and procedures. Clinical decision-making incorporates all phases of the nursing process, critical thinking, and creativity. Nursing excellence is promoted through helping relationships among nursing staff and across disciplines. Responsibilities include coordinating and providing direct patient care on the unit. This includes nursing rounds, assessments, treatments, and facilitating admission, transfer, and discharge activities. Patient and family-centered education is provided along with care coordination and individualized treatment planning. The RN performs and documents comprehensive assessments following scope of practice and policies. Patient culture, age, and developmental level are considered during assessments. Identifying patient risk factors and presenting complaints is essential. Health information may be obtained from family or others as necessary. Objective and subjective data are collected and documented. Initial admission assessments are verified if obtained by other team members. A problem list is developed, and patient needs are prioritized based on input from the inter-professional team. The RN designs relevant actions and interventions. Desired outcomes are determined in coordination with patients and families according to the medical plan of care. Patient care therapies and procedures are fully implemented within established policies and guidelines. The RN explains procedures and treatments to patients and families. Initiating actions to alleviate patient stress and discomfort is part of the role. Changes in patient conditions are recognized, responded to, and communicated appropriately. Ongoing assessments are conducted and documented following hospital policies. The RN delegates tasks appropriately and oversees team members in patient care activities. Monitoring the accuracy and completeness of delegated patient care is critical. Educational needs of patients related to prioritized problems are identified and addressed. Facilitating the patient discharge process includes executing discharge orders in a timely manner. Input into patient/nurse assignments is provided based on staffing, unit activity, and patient acuity. Active participation in unit-based activities supports organizational values and priorities. Promoting a positive group dynamic and healing environment is essential. Nursing excellence is assured according to accepted standards and evidence-based practices. Participation in department quality improvement activities and core measures is expected. A holistic perspective regarding patient care is utilized. Schedule notes include a shift variable mainly between specific times, requiring 1 weekend shift per month, 2 call shifts per month, and holiday shifts as applicable. Required skills include effective, respectful communication and collaboration with co-workers. Understanding computer systems and applications is necessary, along with the ability to assess age-specific patient safety issues. Previous nursing experience is preferred.
