Job Description Summary
MUSC Health Orangeburg is seeking a detail-oriented and highly skilled Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our laboratory team. In this role, you will perform moderate and high-complexity laboratory testing under the general supervision of the Laboratory Manager, ensuring accurate and timely results that support quality patient care. Responsibilities include routine diagnostic testing, quality control procedures, instrument maintenance, troubleshooting laboratory equipment, reporting critical and abnormal results to providers, and documenting results through laboratory information systems. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver with strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of laboratory quality and patient safety. This position performs routine laboratory testing, quality control testing, general and instrument maintenance, calling of critical and questionable results to appropriate providers, and resulting of test using laboratory information systems. Additionally, this role performs general troubleshooting of instrumentation, communicating technical information to appropriate persons. Additional Job Description Education: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in chemical or biological sciences including 24 semester hours of science courses that include 6 semester hours of chemistry, 6 semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours of any combination of chemical or biological sciences.
Experience: 0-6 Months Physical Requirements: Ability to perform job functions while standing. (Continuous) Ability to perform job functions while sitting. (Continuous) Ability to perform job functions while walking. (Continuous) Ability to climb stairs. (Infrequent) Ability to work indoors. (Continuous) Ability to work outside in temperature extremes. (Infrequent) Ability to work from elevated areas. (Frequent) Ability to work in confined/cramped spaces. (Frequent) Ability to perform job functions from kneeling positions. Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes. (Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance. (Continuous) Ability to match or discriminate between colors. (Continuous) Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception. (Continuous) Good peripheral vision capabilities. (Continuous) Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction. (Continuous) Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements. (Continuous) Ability to deal effectively with stressful situations.
