Offered salary will be determined by the applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The International Development team at Northwestern University leads a comprehensive campus-wide program designed to engage alumni, parents, and friends worldwide. With a focus on cultivating a global philanthropic community, the team focuses on building relationships that result in significant philanthropic investments in the University’s highest priorities, academic schools and programs, and in support of faculty and students. In partnership with university leadership, Alumni Relations and Development, and colleagues across campus, the team is responsible for developing, executing, and advancing Northwestern’s strategic global fundraising program. Job Summary The Director of International Development will design, implement, and oversee international region-specific strategies that engage and inspire philanthropic participation through qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. As a key contributor to the University’s next comprehensive fundraising campaign, this new position will drive cohesive international fundraising strategies and advance strategic investment in cultivating and engaging the University’s top international prospects. In addition, this role will be responsible for managing their own fundraising portfolio focused in Taiwan, Singapore, and South Korea. This position reports to the Assistant Vice President, Principal Gifts and International Development and manages one direct report, Senior Program Coordinator. Eligible for hybrid work arrangement with at least three days in the office located in Evanston, Illinois. The position requires regular international travel and involves travel with president, deans, faculty or other senior administrators throughout the year. Essential Duties And Responsibilities Designs and executes comprehensive regional fundraising and engagement strategies in key global markets. Works in collaboration with Assistant Vice President, Senior Executive Director, campus partners and other stakeholders to advance prospect strategies and deepen pipeline of major and principal gift donors. Manages a portfolio of high-net worth donors and prospects consisting of 40+ individuals or families in Taiwan, Singapore and South Korea, with a focus on those who can make gifts of $1M or more. Constructs and implements effective individualized prospect cultivation and solicitation plans. Collaborates closely with school and program colleagues and the Northwestern Alumni Association to develop cohesive and coordinated international regional plans to ensure alignment between engagement and fundraising strategies in key markets in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. Acts as University liaison to help support Chapel & York Hong Kong Foundation, and identities opportunities to promote giving vehicles with donors and prospects. Oversees high-level volunteer fundraising campaign committee to engage select top international donors to support the identification and engagement of prospective seven-figure donors to advance the University’s strategic objectives in key global markets. Manages Senior Program Coordinator, International Development, who provides project management and administrative support to the team. Designs and distributes fundraising reports to key stakeholders, including ARD colleagues, leadership volunteers, or other stakeholders. Will perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree; OR appropriate combination of education and experience. 8 years development, marketing, sales or the equivalent experience is required. Preferred Qualifications High comfort level with frequent travel abroad. Preference with international travel experience and support to academic leadership on develop related visits, events and other engagement and cultivation activities. Proficiency in Mandarin is highly desirable. Proven track record of cultivating and closing six- and seven-figure gifts, with experience in international fundraising and a strong understanding of the complexities of cross-border giving is strongly preferred. Strong organizational and analytical skills and demonstrated track record in strategic planning and management.
