SCHOOL REGISTERED NURSE - BURK ELEMENTARY Position Length Nurse Calendar - 187 Workdays Salary $49,502 and up depending on experience Hours Per Day 8 Purpose Statement The School Registered Nurse role is performed to provide maximum educational opportunity for each student by creating a climate of good health and wellbeing through education, screenings, nursing assessment and medical attention. Essential Functions Assure immunization compliance and disease surveillance. Maintain all records containing health information in an organized and confidential fashion. Responsible for vision and hearing screenings to meet State Law. Conduct day‑to‑day Health Office activities including first aid, medication dispensing, nursing assessment, catheterization, gastrostomy tube medications, tube feedings, SVN treatments, and other typical RN duties. Train staff on emergency healthcare procedures to ensure compliance with state law. Maintain documentation both written and within a Health Information System. Assist campus with reports of suspected child abuse to ensure compliance with all related legal requirements and provide annual training on DCS reporting procedures. Work with IEP and 504 teams to provide an optimal educational environment for medically fragile students. Keep an organized and efficient Health Office. Participate on behavioral health teams, crisis and safety teams, and provide faculty training on Bloodborne Pathogen and other health concerns. Implement health services in accordance with nursing practice within the limits and policies of the school district and Arizona Board of Nursing. Collaborate with parents/guardians, students, health care providers, and other agencies to promote needed treatment, secure information, and comply with legal requirements. Design Health Care Plans to address students' health needs and implement health care directions from parents and/or physicians, including emergency plans and transportation health care plans. Must be able to lift 50 pounds without restrictions. Job Requirements Mental Requirements Learning Development: Level D Specialized vocational or technical knowledge providing a command of certain technical, administrative, and/or operative practices and techniques; completion of a formal technical/vocational curriculum often resulting in a degree. Problem Solving: Level 3 – work situations require significant interpretation and evaluation to recognize and define problems; consider alternate solutions and develop short‑term action plans. Physical Requirements Physical Skill: Level B – some learned physical skill is required; coordinated finger, limb or body movements must be performed; competency can be developed on the job over a relatively short period. Physical Effort: Level 1 – minimal physical exertion; mostly sitting with occasional walking and lifting lightweight materials. Social Requirements Human Relations Skill: Level B – patience in communication and well‑developed verbal skills to exchange technical or complex information with individuals or small informal groups; skills in establishing harmonious relationships and gaining cooperation. Scope of Contacts: Level 2 – interpersonal contacts extend to peers in other work groups or to clients/customers who speak the language; occasional interactions with higher authority beyond immediate supervisor. Work Environment Performance Environment: Level B – work pressure, disruptions, irregularities in schedule may occur intermittently; changes may require occasional skill upgrades. Physical Working Conditions: Level 4 – extensive and continuous exposure to hazardous conditions; dangerous situations; high likelihood of serious injury or illness if proper precautions not taken; assignments are highly undesirable. Accountability Level of Accountability: Level B – responsible for producing journey‑level work output independently under supervisory direction and review. Organizational Impact: Level 3 – work results, decisions, and approvals impact overall internal systems, programs, or final product/service quantity or quality. Experience, Education, and Certifications Experience: Prefer at least two years of clinical RN experience; pediatric and/or school nurse experience desired. Education: Associate or Bachelor degree from an accredited institution. Certifications/Clearances: RN License in Good Standing; National School Nurse Certification (recommended); Evidence of Hepatitis B Series; valid Arizona DPS Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card during employment.
