Founded in 2001, LEARN is a network of high‑performing college preparatory, tuition‑free public elementary and middle schools with the mission of providing children with the academic foundation and ambition to earn a college degree. There are 11 LEARN Schools serving over 4,000 students in grades PK‑8 across Chicago, Waukegan, North Chicago, and Washington, D.C. What You’ll Do The Middle School Language Arts Teacher will be responsible for the daily operation of their classroom. The teacher is required to provide high‑quality instruction to all students every day. The classroom environment is supportive and community‑based. The teacher must also cultivate and maintain ongoing relationships with student families, staff, and other members of the community. Essential Job Functions Effectively implement instructional programs and strategic interventions that drive results while teaching to the whole child. Plan and deliver differentiated instruction and ongoing assessments for children with diverse learning needs. Demonstrate effective classroom management skills that contribute to a positive learning environment. Participate in professional development opportunities and collaborate with peers to grow professionally. Use data to improve instruction and student achievement. Maintain a professional working relationship with students, families, and colleagues. What You’ll Need Professional Educator’s License (PEL) in Elementary Education or Secondary Education with Middle School Language Arts Endorsement. A demonstrated record of living LEARN’s Core Values. Preferred bilingual. Possess 1+ year of teaching experience. Demonstrated track record of delivering gains in student academic achievement. Working Conditions and Physical Demands Teachers will work in a busy and active environment. Multiple activities may occur simultaneously, and the teacher must supervise all children at all times. Majority of work is performed in a general classroom/school environment. Teachers may be asked to participate in and attend organization‑sponsored events and meetings, such as field trips and network professional development sessions. Physical demands include lifting and carrying students and equipment, sitting on the floor or child‑sized furniture, using standard business office equipment, cleaning and maintaining classroom equipment and furniture, moving moderate distances indoors and outdoors with children, including climbing stairs, standing, bending, reaching, stooping, walking, kneeling for up to 60% of the day, walking up and down stairs multiple times a day, and lifting, pushing or pulling 15 to 40 pounds for short periods.
