Conventional Machinist – Traubs/Lathe in Gardena, CA — $22.00–$25.00/hr DOE, 2nd shift, contract-to-hire. Set up and operate conventional machining equipment for precision fastener parts.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Put your machining experience to work on precision aerospace components.

Set up and machine production features on conventional mills and lathes, with a focus on the Traubs/lathe opening. Read prints, select and secure fixtures and cutting tools, and inspect parts as the job runs.

This is hands-on second-shift machining with close attention to tool condition, part dimensions, and safe equipment operation. Expect repeated setup and inspection work around cutting tools, metal chips, and running machinery.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Operate conventional mills and lathes to customer specifications
• Prepare and set up fixtures and cutting tools for assigned jobs
• Read blueprints and identify the required part features and tolerances
• Machine features using drilling, boring, milling, turning, and edge breaking
• Lay out parts and perform bench inspection during production
• Use inspection tools to check dimensions and identify nonconforming parts
• Apply appropriate cutting-tool geometry and report tool or process problems

WHAT YOU NEED

• At least 4 years of machining experience
• Experience with conventional milling or lathe operations and machine setup
• Ability to read blueprints and understand part requirements
• Shop math skills, including fractions, decimals, and simple geometry
• Ability to use a range of inspection tools accurately
• Understanding of cutting-tool geometry and applications
• Availability for on-site second-shift work

NICE TO HAVE

• Traub or conventional screw-machine experience
• Aerospace fastener manufacturing experience
• NIMS certification
• High school diploma or GED

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Standing and walking during machining operations, reaching into machine work areas when equipment is safe, handling parts and tools, and repetitive hand movements for loading and measurement. Specific material-handling demands will be reviewed with your recruiter.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Machine shop with moving equipment, metal chips, cutting fluids, and production noise. PPE is required and provided, and all plant safety procedures apply.
