Industrial Equipment Mechanic

Summary This Industrial Equipment Mechanic position is located in the Operations Section of Facilities Management Service at the Ft. Meade Campus of the Veterans Affairs Black Hills Heath Care System (VA BHHCS). The primary duties and responsibilities of the Industrial Equipment Mechanic are to maintain, repair and service building service equipment and facility vehicles. Responsibilities Major duties and responsibilities include: Uses standard test procedures to trace and locate problems Overhauls and repairs a wide range of makes, models, and types of mechanical, electrical, and mechanical/electrical equipment Makes exact adjustments, on precise timing of gears, alignment of shafts, and adjustments of contact points and electrical motor parts Manages the responsibility for maintenance and minor repair of facility vehicles Installs and repairs complex equipment and machinery. Involving PLC controls and series connected machines Examines and troubleshoot machinery and equipment to determine the extent of repairs required, materials or parts needed, and to estimate the time required to complete repair Interprets and apply the requirements contained in technical manuals, shop directives, multi-view blueprints, and other documents in determining critical dimensions and key reference point Dismantles, move, and relocate various types of industrial plant machinery and equipment or install new machinery and equipment Performs other duties as assigned Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:00am-4:30pm Recruitment & Relocation Incentives: Not authorized Requirements Conditions of Employment You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply for this job Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959 Pre-employment physical required Subject to background/security investigation Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process. Qualifications Driver's License Requirement: Must possess a valid state-issued Driver's License to operate a motor vehicle. (Please do not submit a copy of your license with your application package. Resume(s) must be clearly supported with details of qualifying experience to receive credit Physical Requirements: Frequently handles objects weighing 45 pounds and occasionally carry objects weighing 45 pounds and over for considerable distances. Pushes, pulls, reaches, walks, stands, crawls, kneels, bends and works in cramped positions over and under machinery of all types for sustained periods of time. Work requires disassembly and reassembly of large heavy duty commercial equipment components. Working Conditions: Work is usually performed Inside areas that are adequately lighted, ventilated and heated. Floor and deck surfaces are sometimes uneven, wet or oily and slippery. Frequent exposure to moving objects and sharp edges with the possibility of cuts and bruises, and to noise and vibration from machines, occasionally climbs and works from ladders and equipment staging points, possibility of serious injury from slipping and falling. Dirt, grease, and dampness are frequently encountered. Various protective devices such as hard hats, gloves, safety shoes, and safety glasses are used.
