State Park Superintendent II

The California Department of Parks and Recreation is seeking a motivated and experienced law enforcement professional to serve as Academy Director for the State Park Peace Officer Cadet Academy. This is a senior leadership position within the HQ Training Section classified as State Park Superintendent II, located in Oroville, California.

Under the general direction of the Training Section Chief, the Academy Director is responsible for the full oversight, administration, and management of the SPPO Cadet Academy and the Department's Field Training Program. The incumbent will direct all aspects of academy operations, including curriculum sequencing, instructional methods, testing, remediation, staff hiring and performance evaluation, discipline, and budget management. The position also serves as the Department's Field Training Administrator, providing statewide oversight of FTP standards, Field Training Officer selection and evaluation, and trainee progress and assignment management.

The Academy Director acts as DPR's primary peace officer liaison to the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training, maintaining all POST records and ensuring the Department's law enforcement training program remains fully certified and compliant. The incumbent provides subject matter expertise on peace officer topics to the Training Section Chief and department leadership and serves as a training specialist for DPR-sponsored Field Training Officer, FTO Refresher/Update, and Field Training Supervisor courses. The position also requires maintaining peace officer proficiency and availability to perform law enforcement duties as needed, including patrol, investigations, emergency response, and incident command.
