It is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of all North Carolinians, providing human service needs for special populations including individuals who are deaf, blind, developmentally disabled, and mentally ill, and helping poor North Carolinians achieve economic independence.Description of WorkThis Rehabilitation Counselor position is located in the Sylva VR/IL Unit Office in Jackson County, NC and will provide coverage for an independent living caseload. The primary purpose of the Independent Living Rehabilitation Program is to provide services to eligible individuals with the most significant disabilities in order to de-institutionalize where possible or prevent institutionalization of individuals who are at risk for the same. The Independent Living Counselor works with the client to improve functioning in the home and community and when possible, assist in transitioning into the general Vocational Rehabilitation Services Program for services leading to employment.Job responsibilities include the following:Evaluating professional diagnostic data to determine eligibility and required rehabilitation servicesDeveloping and implementing written rehabilitation plans of services in conjunction with the client, parent, and/or guardianProviding rehabilitation services within the context of a guidance and counseling relationship and providing supportive counselingMonitoring client progress throughout the service delivery processWorking directly with community partners and employers to assist individuals with disabilities in becoming successfully employedDocumenting service delivery and case progress in the case management system as required by agency policyKnowledge Skills and Abilities/Management PreferencesSalary Grade Range $43,267 - $75,718Recruitment Range $43,267 - $64,000**Position is eligible for a hybrid-teleworking schedule to include weekly onsite work hours**Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement.The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required.
