Histology Technician II (PRN) - WashU Histology and Innovation Services Center

Position Summary The Washington University Histology and Innovation Services Center (WHISC) is seeking a part‑time, as‑needed Histology Technician to support animal tissue processing and histopathology services within the centralized animal histology core. This position performs routine and specialized histology procedures for preclinical and translational research studies, including tissue processing, embedding, slide preparation, and quality control. The technician will work collaboratively with WHISC staff and investigators to ensure high‑quality specimen preparation while maintaining laboratory safety, organization, and compliance standards. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical histology skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage variable workloads in a fast‑paced research environment; prior experience with animal tissues and core laboratory operations is preferred. Primary Duties & Responsibilities Prepares histology sections by processing tissue and embedding, cutting, and staining prepared sections. Performs special techniques such as immunohistochemical techniques and stains and cutting of frozen tissue. Prepares and changes solutions and reagents. Performs general maintenance of laboratory equipment. Maintains supply and chemical inventories. Cleans and prepares staining set and conducts quality control. Performs record keeping and clerical support functions. Assists supervisor with other duties and special projects as needed.
