Blueberry Harvest School Nurse
Purpose:
- Ensure that health services are available and accessible for all students during the blueberry harvest.
- Work with BHS staff, the Maine Mobile Health Program, and other service providers to connect students to health services as needed.
- Support the implementation of social emotional classroom support services for students within all classrooms at the BHS. Expected age groups are: 3-5, 6-8, 9-11, and 12-15.
Outcomes:
- Students attending the BHS receive health support services during the blueberry harvest.
- All students feel that their health needs are met.
- Students attending the BHS receive social emotional support services during the blueberry harvest.
- All students in each classroom experience learning opportunities where they feel welcome, supported, and connected to others.
Responsibilities:
- Respond to student health needs, including: providing basic first aid, administering student medications, and coordinating program responses to emergency medical needs.
- Maintain up-to-date student information regarding allergies, health conditions, and medications, and communicate student health needs immediately to the BHS School Coordinator.
- Ensure all first aid kits at the school and during field trips are stocked and accessible.
- Coordinate student access to health services available from the Maine Mobile Health Program, and other service providers.
- When there are no student health needs, assist the Social Emotional Support Services team as a floating support where needed most. This includes:
- Provide individual and small group support based on students' educational, emotional, and behavioral needs.
- Support highly engaging enrichment activities that incorporate social-emotional learning opportunities.
- Share supervision responsibilities with Teachers during bus arrival/dismissal, meal times, recess, and field trips.
- Communicate regularly with other program staff to ensure that students are able to access support services available during the program.
- Share staff responsibilities during one evening event per week, such as Family Night.
Collaboration and Supervision:
The BHS Nurse receives regular support and feedback from their supervisor: School Coordinator

The BHS Nurse collaborates with staff in the following roles: Teachers, Floating Assistant Teachers, School Coordinator, Community Culture Coordinator and Administrator
- The BHS Nurse connects with Teachers and Floating Assistant Teachers throughout the day to communicate about student health needs.
- The BHS Nurse connects with the School Coordinator as needed, to ensure that student needs are being met at the school site and discuss response plans for student health needs.
The BHS Nurse does not supervise staff in any other roles.

Qualifications and Hiring Information:
- Values: Must demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to Mano en Mano's mission and vision. Ideal candidates for this position will demonstrate experience that reflects a commitment to equity and social justice.
- Experience: Four years of experience demonstrating a range of skills relevant to health and wellness and/or community organizing. Preference for applicants with experience working with highly mobile students; understanding of language development in multilingual students; and experience providing group activities for students
- Language: Must be fluent in English AND Haitian Creole, Mi'kmaq, Passamaquoddy, and/or Spanish.
- Education: Bachelor's degree or higher. Two or more years of equivalent work experience may be considered. Preference for applicants with medical background/training.
- Pay Range: $25.75-27.75/hour, based on BHS experience, and/or language fluency.
- Start/End Date: Wednesday, July 22nd - Friday, August 14th
- Expected Hours (Full Time):
- PD Week: Wednesday, July 22nd - Friday, July 24th - 8:00AM-4:00PM
- School in-session : Monday, July 27th - Friday, August 14th - 8:00AM-4:00PM, Monday-Friday, with additional hours during family events and resource fairs
