Diesel Mechanic

Hiring for Diesel Mechanic that will be maintain airport GSE equipment.

Job Description

This role focuses on performing preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on medium-duty diesel vehicles and their associated systems. You will work with diesel engines, air brakes, hydraulics, and electrical systems to ensure safe, reliable operation of the fleet and minimize downtime.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance on medium-duty trucks to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
• Diagnose and repair diesel engines, including resolving drivability issues and check engine light concerns.
• Inspect, repair, and maintain air brake systems to meet safety and performance standards.
• Read and interpret schematics to troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues.
• Work on hydraulic systems, including understanding how they function and performing necessary repairs.
• Use electrical experience to diagnose and repair electrical issues on trucks, including wiring diagnostics.
• Identify and resolve wiring and electrical faults that impact truck performance and safety.
• Document maintenance and repair work accurately and clearly for service records.
• Follow safety procedures and use provided personal protective equipment (PPE) while performing all tasks.
• Collaborate with team members and communicate clearly about vehicle status, repair needs, and timelines.

Essential Skills

• At least 3 years of experience working with diesel engines.
• A minimum of 1 year of hands-on experience with hydraulic systems.
• Proven ability to perform preventative maintenance on medium-duty trucks.
• Strong skills in diagnosing and repairing diesel engines and drivability issues.
• Experience repairing and maintaining air brake systems.
• Ability to read and interpret schematics for mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
• Electrical diagnostic experience, including troubleshooting and repairing wiring issues.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to obtain and maintain an airport SIDA badge. (Airport Badge)
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail in diagnostics and repairs.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working specifically on medium-duty diesel trucks.
• Experience in engine diagnosis and repair across various diesel platforms.
• Comfort working with both mechanical and electronic diagnostic tools.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as part of a team.
• Strong communication skills to explain issues and repairs clearly.
• Commitment to safety practices and proper use of PPE.

Work Environment

This is a hands-on, shop and field-based role focused on medium-duty diesel trucks and associated systems such as engines, hydraulics, air brakes, and electrical components. The schedule runs Wednesday through Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. You will work with diagnostic tools, schematics, and standard mechanic equipment in an environment that prioritizes safety and provides all required personal protective equipment (PPE). The setting is fast-paced and service-oriented, with a strong focus on keeping equipment operational and minimizing downtime.

This is a Permanent position based out of Franklin Park, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $56000.00 - $70000.00/yr.
