Deputy Sheriff – Canadian County Sheriff’s Office Application Deadline: September 4, 2026 Job Description The Canadian County Sheriff’s Officeprovides comprehensive law enforcement services to the citizens of CanadianCounty. Deputies may be assigned to various divisions based on the needs of theagency, including Patrol , Civil , School Resource , JuvenileInvestigations , Court Liaison, and Criminal Investigations. PatrolDivision The Patrol Division is the largest andmost publicly visible component of the Sheriff’s Office, providing 24/7 lawenforcement coverage. Patrol Deputies are responsible for: Responding to calls for service Conducting traffic enforcement Assisting other law enforcement agencies Patrolling approximately 906 square miles Providing service to a growing population of roughly 187,336residents Deputies primarily patrolunincorporated areas of the county but will respond to requests for servicefrom residents anywhere assistance is needed. CivilDivision Civil Division Deputies perform a widerange of duties crucial to courthouse operations and civil process functions.Responsibilities include: Maintaining courthouse security and order Ensuring the safety of judges, attorneys, county employees, and thepublic Managing the screening of approximately 35,000 individuals annually Conducting in-state and out-of-state warrant transports Performing writ transports and evictions Transporting inmates to and from court Carrying out mental health transports Serving civil process documents SchoolResource Division School Resource Deputies (SROs) aresworn law enforcement officers assigned to school campuses to provide safety,security, and mentorship. Responsibilities include: Responding to calls for service occurring on school property Enforcing local and state laws Building positive relationships with students Conducting presentations on youth-related topics Working collaboratively with school administrators Assisting other divisions during summer months Deputies assigned as SROs mustdemonstrate strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to supporting youth inan educational environment. JuvenileInvestigations Division Deputies assigned to JuvenileInvestigations work Monday through Friday, generally during standard businesshours. Duties include: Communicating effectively with juveniles, parents, teachers, andadministrators Working closely with agencies such as DHS, OJA, and other lawenforcement entities Handling cases involving truancy, neglect, drug offenses, and otherjuvenile-related crimes Providing mentorship and guidance to youth Serving civil paperwork related to juvenile cases Transporting juveniles and adults in custody for court hearings Assisting with juvenile warrant transports within the state Supporting the Patrol Division as needed Court Liaison Deputy The Court Liaison Deputy works withinthe Civil Division and is responsible for facilitating communication andmovement between the Sheriff’s Office, the courthouse, and the jail. Dutiesinclude: Providing security and support to courthouse personnel Coordinating attorney visits at the jail Managing video visits and video plea processes for attorneys andjudges Transporting inmates for court proceedings Taking individuals into custody on warrants or court orders Learning and applying court procedures and associated paperwork Assisting the Civil Division when necessary Work hours align with courthouseoperations, with occasional exceptions. Criminal Investigator Primary Duties Investigatecrimes and conduct proactive/reactive enforcement Perform a widevariety of investigations Conduct victimand witness interviews Locatewitnesses, documents, and information Identify,collect, and preserve physical evidence Preparedetailed investigative reports and testify in court Develop andmaintain informants and intelligence sources Participate incrime scene analysis and evidence collection Reviewdeputies’ reports for follow-up needs Serve asincident commander during major incidents when assignedPerform uniformpatrol duties when necessary Work assignedcases from the Sheriff, Undersheriff, Major, or Captain Serve on-callon a rotational basis Respond tomajor crime scenes as needed Required Qualifications Full-Time CLEETCertified Good standingwith the Sheriff’s Office and CLEET Ability to workindependently and collaboratively Strongcommunication and report-writing skills Ability toproblem-solve and think creatively Ability toconduct specialized operations (bait trailers, stings, online undercoverwork) Preferred Skills Ability toresearch laws and understand crime elements Stronginvestigative and analytical capabilities Experience withinterviews, interrogations, and evidence handling Training & Additional Notes Positionrequires specialty training similar to an FTO program Selectedcandidate will attend up to three weeks of investigator training Investigatorsmust be able to handle high-stress incidents with professionalism andempathy Customerservice and victim support skills are essential Typical hours: Monday–Friday,0800–1630 , with on-call rotation Six-monthprobationary period applies Standards,Training, and Expectations Deputies of the Canadian CountySheriff’s Office will receive the training, equipment, and support necessary tomeet the operational demands of the agency.
