FISCHER SERVICES
Plumbing Service Manager
Build the team. Grow the business. Raise the standard.
COMPENSATION: $125,000-$175,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications
LICENSE: Active Washington PL01 or PL02 plumber certification
FOCUS: Leadership, plumbing service growth, operational performance, and team development
Join an established, well-run service operation with an experienced team and a strong foundation. Fischer Services is looking for a hands-on plumbing leader who can support the field, maintain high standards, develop employees, and help the service department continue to grow responsibly.
The Opportunity
Fischer Services is seeking an experienced Plumbing Service Manager to oversee the daily performance of our plumbing service team. The right person will combine trade credibility, sound judgment, organization, and the ability to develop people. This manager will support technicians, coordinate service activity, maintain quality and safety standards, monitor results, and help skilled plumbers do their best work and build lasting careers.
This is a visible, hands-on management role. You will work closely with technicians, apprentices, dispatch, customer service, and company leadership to keep work moving, support strong field execution, and deliver a consistently positive customer experience.
Primary Areas of Responsibility
Daily service operations: Keep the service department organized and responsive by coordinating field capacity, scheduling priorities, job readiness, and communication.
Technician leadership: Set clear expectations, coach consistently, reinforce accountability, and build a respectful field culture grounded in safety, quality, integrity, and service.
Customer experience: Ensure customers receive timely communication, sound recommendations, professional workmanship, and appropriate resolution when concerns arise.
Service performance: Monitor revenue, gross margin, productivity, average ticket, conversion, callbacks, and customer retention and respond appropriately when results require attention.
Team development: Recruit, onboard, train, coach, and retain licensed plumbers and apprentices while helping employees strengthen their technical and customer-service capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
Direct the daily activities of plumbing service technicians and apprentices and remain accessible to the field for technical, customer, and operational support.
Hold regular one-on-ones, ride-alongs, field observations, huddles, and team meetings to reinforce expectations and provide timely coaching.
Partner with dispatch and customer service to balance workload, assign calls appropriately, manage schedule changes, and maximize productive capacity.
Ensure service calls are properly diagnosed, scoped, priced, documented, and completed safely, efficiently, and to Fischer's quality standards.
Work closely with dispatch, customer service, sales/estimating, finance, recruiting, and other business leaders to coordinate priorities and support the customer and employee experience.
If the selected candidate holds a PL01 certification, support appropriate opportunities to develop Fischer's commercial plumbing offering.
Review significant estimates, proposals, pricing, labor assumptions, job costs, and completed work for accuracy, quality, and profitability.
Establish and monitor meaningful performance indicators, including revenue, gross margin, average ticket, conversion, technician productivity, labor efficiency, callbacks, customer satisfaction, safety, and employee retention.
Identify training needs and coordinate technical, safety, customer-service, and ethical sales training for plumbers and apprentices.
Participate actively in recruiting, interviews, onboarding, performance reviews, corrective action, and retention efforts for the service team.
Support licensing, permitting, inspection readiness, code compliance, documentation, and adherence to applicable federal, state, and local requirements.
Promote disciplined safety practices, incident prevention, proper tools and equipment, vehicle care, and timely corrective action when standards are not met.
Support effective purchasing, inventory, material availability, tool accountability, and vehicle readiness for the service team.
Address customer concerns promptly and professionally, using recurring issues as opportunities to improve systems, training, and quality.
Serve as a visible, hands-on leader who understands field realities and is willing to step in when operational needs require it.
What Success Looks Like
Technicians understand expectations, receive consistent support and coaching, and remain accountable for results.
Service calls are assigned effectively, technicians arrive prepared, and work is completed with strong documentation and follow-through.
Service capacity, revenue, customer retention, and profitability remain healthy and continue to grow responsibly.
Workmanship, communication, customer satisfaction, schedule reliability, and callback performance meet established standards.
Leadership has clear visibility into service performance, staffing needs, field concerns, and customer trends.
Customers experience responsive communication, expert workmanship, and a company that stands behind its work.
Required Qualifications
Active Washington State journey-level plumber certification (PL01) or residential specialty plumber certification (PL02), in good standing.
Substantial plumbing-industry experience with demonstrated technical credibility in service, repair, replacement, installation, troubleshooting, and code-compliant work.
Proven leadership experience managing field employees and building accountability, engagement, and performance.
Demonstrated ability to manage technician performance, service results, customer experience, and daily operating priorities.
Strong working knowledge of service operations, scheduling, labor planning, estimating, pricing, job costing, and performance metrics.
Ability to read plans and specifications, evaluate scopes of work, identify risk, and support accurate estimates and proposals.
Strong communication, decision-making, conflict-resolution, and relationship-building skills.
Experience with field-service software, dispatch workflows, scorecards, and technician performance reporting.
Working knowledge of applicable plumbing codes, permitting and inspection requirements, safety expectations, and employment practices relevant to leading a field workforce.
Valid driver's license and an insurable driving record consistent with company requirements.
Ability to use standard business technology, field-service software, reporting tools, and performance dashboards.
Highly Preferred
Experience supporting the continued growth of an established plumbing service department.
Experience coaching technicians on communication, options-based service, estimating, and ethical sales practices.
Experience supporting apprenticeships, technical training, and career development.
Management Style
The strongest candidate will be:
Credible in the field and capable in the business.
Direct, steady, fair, and consistent - someone who sets standards and follows through.
Organized, responsive, and comfortable working within a fast-moving service environment.
Business-minded and financially disciplined, with sound judgment about profitable service growth.
A coach who develops talent while addressing performance issues promptly and appropriately.
Customer-focused, solutions-oriented, and protective of the company's reputation.
Comfortable moving between technician coaching, customer concerns, performance data, and the practical details required to get work done.
Compensation and Benefits
The anticipated salary range for this position is $125,000-$155,000 annually. Final compensation will be determined based on relevant leadership experience, plumbing credentials, service expertise, demonstrated business results, and overall fit for the role.
Benefits include medical and dental coverage, a 401(k) retirement plan, paid vacation, Washington paid sick leave, and paid holidays, subject to eligibility and plan terms.
Physical and Work Requirements
Ability to work in office, shop, customer, and active jobsite environments and travel locally between work locations.
Ability to safely navigate jobsites, climb stairs or ladders, bend, reach, and inspect work in varied environments.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Availability to address urgent operational or customer issues outside regular business hours when reasonably necessary.
