Advanced Practice Nurse In Behavioral Health
Provide advanced practice nursing care specializing in behavioral health for patients across the lifespan in an ambulatory clinic and/or hospital setting. Responsibilities include psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, medication management, therapeutic intervention, and coordination of care with the interdisciplinary team. The NP/PMHNP plays a key role in improving access to behavioral health services and ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care.
Promote the mission, vision, and values of the organization
Conduct psychiatric and behavioral health evaluations for new and established patients
Diagnose and manage mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, substance use disorders, psychosis, and mood disorders
Prescribe, monitor, and adjust psychiatric medications in accordance with evidence-based practice and state/federal guidelines
Provide brief therapeutic interventions and supportive counseling as appropriate
Collaborate with physicians, social workers, therapists, and nursing staff to develop and implement comprehensive treatment plans
Educate patients and families regarding psychiatric diagnoses, treatment options, and medication management
Ensure continuity of care by coordinating referrals to specialty providers and community resources
Document all patient encounters in the electronic health record in a timely and accurate manner
Participate in case conferences, team meetings, and quality improvement initiatives
Maintain licensure, certifications, and continuing education requirements in accordance with state regulations
Demonstrate professionalism, empathy, and cultural sensitivity in all patient and staff interactions
Serve as a resource for staff education on behavioral health topics and evidence-based practices
Provide crisis intervention and support in urgent or emergent psychiatric situations
Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Master's or Doctorate degree in Nursing from an accredited program
Current Nurse Practitioner license in the state of New Mexico (or eligibility for licensure)
Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) preferred, or NP with documented behavioral health training and experience
Current DEA registration with authority to prescribe controlled substances
BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
Minimum of 12 years of clinical experience in psychiatric or behavioral health settings strongly preferred

Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions
Working irregular hours including call hours
Physically demanding, high-stress environment
Exposure to blood and body fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, radiation, and repetitive motions
Pushing and pulling heavy objects
Full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients
Position requires light to moderate work with 50 pounds maximum weight to lift and carry.
Position requires reaching, bending, stooping, and handling objects with hands and/or fingers, talking and/or hearing, and seeing.
Ability to work in varying degrees of temperature (heater or air conditioned).
Ability to walk, stand or be on feet approximately 8 hours per day.
Ability to sit for 2-4 hours per day.
