Civil Project Engineer (Transportation)

Transportation/Roadway Engineering Position

To be considered for this position, one must have at least 7-10 years of relevant work experience in transportation/roadway engineering, either at a current or former consulting engineering firm working closely under a Professional Engineer and other professionals for a significant period of time. Must have possessed their PE license (preferably in the State of MI). Familiar with MDOT local agency standards and experience working and designing on MDOT projects.

The successful candidate will work with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and will be responsible for roadway geometric design, drainage calculations, quantity calculations, and the preparation of construction documents including plans, specifications, and cost estimates for municipal and MDOT roadway/highway projects.

In this position, you will be working under the supervision of the managers of our Grand Rapids Civil Department.

Responsibilities:

• Provide technical expertise on transportation and municipal utility projects.
• Perform detailed design and plan review of MDOT and locally funded projects, including development of specifications, estimates and studies.
• Prepare permits and applications for SHPO and other documents related to projects.
• Project design and coordination of day-to-day activities, including training of graduate engineers.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering required.
• PE in the State of Michigan preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of related experience required.
• Experience with the study, planning, and design of transportation and municipal utilities, funding agency administration, permitting.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Familiarity of industry practices and regulations, including knowledge of LAP and MDOT design and deliverable requirements.
• Experience working with state, county, and municipal agencies in West and Northern Michigan desired.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D required.
• Experience with MicroStation.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
