Material Handler

The Shipping Associate prepares, packages, and ships domestic and international orders within a warehouse environment, with a strong focus on accuracy, safety, and compliance with hazardous materials regulations and internal procedures.

• Prepare orders for shipment by moving materials within the warehouse to designated shipping areas.
• Package and prepare materials for shipment, including any special preparation and documentation required for hazardous materials.
• Create required shipping documentation for domestic and foreign shipments by stamping, typing, or writing, and ensure all forms are complete and accurate.
• Affix appropriate labels to shipments in accordance with regulatory and customer requirements.
• Examine outgoing shipments to ensure they meet internal and external specifications and that all procedures are followed.
• Maintain accurate shipping records and verify all documentation for completeness and correctness.
• Ship packages by mail, messenger, or approved carriers while following all relevant internal and external procedures.
• Operate material-handling equipment such as forklift trucks and hand trucks to load and move shipments safely.
• Perform electronic system transactions to accurately reflect the movement and status of materials and products.
• Assist in maintaining inventory levels of shipping materials and supplies to ensure adequate stock is available to meet shipping demands.
• Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives and safety activities at the corporate and team level.
• Complete all required training related to safety, quality, and shipping procedures.
• Recognize workplace hazards and take proactive steps to prevent incidents, immediately reporting any injuries, unsafe conditions, or malfunctioning equipment.
• Operate equipment and follow procedures in accordance with applicable quality and safety standards, including ISO and OHSAS requirements.

• Minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
• At least 2 years of related warehouse and shipping experience.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
• Hands-on experience with shipping, receiving, and general warehouse operations.
• Proficiency in operating forklifts and hand trucks for material handling.
• Basic computer skills to perform electronic system transactions and documentation.
• Experience with inventory handling and maintaining shipping supply levels.
• Demonstrated shipping experience in a warehouse or distribution environment.

• Experience working in a chemical environment, preferably with chemical shipping responsibilities.
• Previous experience shipping hazardous goods via ground, air, and ocean freight.
• Hazardous goods certifications such as DOT, IATA, and IMDG 49 CFR (highly preferred).
• Prior experience using JDE or similar ERP systems for shipping and inventory transactions.
• Valid forklift license or certification.
• Familiarity with hazardous materials documentation and labeling requirements.
• Understanding of ISO and OHSAS standards and related procedures.

The work involves handling chemicals and hazardous goods packages for ground, air, and ocean shipments, following ISO and OHSAS standards and internal procedures. Appropriate safety practices, personal protective equipment, and compliance with established protocols are integral to daily operations.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of WEST HAVEN, CT.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
