Software Engineer – Front-end Web, Data Platform

The Viacom Data Platform is looking for an awesome Software Engineer with professional, hands-on experience in developing modern, intuitive, web based applications to enhance the user experience of new and open source tools we are extending. The Data Platform is responsible for ensuring the right people have the right data at the right level of granularity across Viacom brands such as Nickelodeon, MTV, BET, and Comedy Central. We enable teams driving video, marketing, and advertising to be data driven and we are implementing practical approaches with machine learning to enhance the work people do here. We take an internal open source approach to our work and believe our code needs to be top quality in order to succeed. Responsibilities:

• Extending and customizing an open source data catalog application to create a compelling and delightful user experience
• Ensuring our internal single sign on experience works well and looks great
• Assist in other front-end application, sometimes advising, sometimes getting hands-on
• Creating technical documentation
• Improving automation and test coverage (unit/integration/user acceptance tests, etc.)
• Keeping up to date with modern software engineering technologies

Your profile:

• 4+ years of software engineering experience with 2+ years in JavaScript based web development plus a Master's degree in Computer Science (or related field) or equivalent professional experience combined with a Bachelor's degree
• Expertise with Node.JS, JQuery, and at least one of ReactJS, EmberJS, Angular
• Experience with build and dependency management tools (e.g. npm, Webpack, gulp)
• Insist on automating everything (testing, Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery)
• Working knowledge of Python and experience with either Java or Scala
• Some experience with Python frameworks such as Flask, Django, and/or Pylons
• Working knowledge of cloud platforms, what it means to build a cloud native app and experience with one or more of AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Microsoft Azure
• Good experience with agile development processes like Scrum and Kanban
• Experience in working with Unix/Linux environment

Nice to have:

• Great UX design chops
• Experience with data driven applications
