Overview Volunteers of America Northern California & Northern Nevada (VOA-NCNN) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping vulnerable individuals and families. Founded locally in 1911, the affiliate is one of the largest providers of social services in the region and operates more than 40 programs, including housing, employment, and substance‑abuse services. They are recruiting for a full‑time Employment Specialist for the Adolfo Housing Program at the Mather Community Campus. Responsibilities

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Employment Specialist is responsible for the efficient and compassionate operation of the program, ensuring quality service to all residents through coordination of program functions and assistance to other staff. The role includes collaborating with partner service providers, managing job search skills and activities, job matching and placement activities, assessment of job readiness, facilitation of job clubs/alumni groups, and retention services.

OBJECTIVES/ACTIVITIES:

A. Responsible for client placement to achieve established objectives of the department. Work with participants on job‑search skills and activities to ensure continued job‑start readiness. Manage day‑to‑day operational tasks and the job‑placement process within established business relationships. Match and refer participants to jobs to secure unsubsidized placements. Prepare participants for interviews and follow‑up with employers after interviews. Facilitate initial program orientation workshop and weekly job club/alumni group. Provide retention services to participants at critical milestones of employment. B. Responsible for assisting with training and development of new staff. Assist in department orientation and training for new employees as requested. Serve as part of the development team by providing information and support for quality operations. Maintain an above‑average working knowledge of fire, safety, and health standards to assure a safe work environment for clients and personnel. C. Responsible for self‑development. Continuously learn and enhance technical and interpersonal skills. Attend staff meetings and assigned training and complete required certifications (e.g., CPR, First Aid). Attend all training and collaborative meetings necessary for development of employment resources. Serve as part of the development team by providing information and support for quality operations. Maintain an above‑average working knowledge of fire, safety, and health standards. Qualifications EQUIVALENT EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: A Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or a related field is preferred. This position requires two years of successful experience in the delivery of human services or a combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the ability to complete the duties above. The role requires strong communication skills, ability to provide services without ethnic or social prejudice, and familiarity with issues faced by foster youth, homelessness, substance abuse, minorities, and people with disabilities. Valid California driver’s license and background clearance are required. CPR/First Aid certification is required within 90 days.
