Responsibilities Maintain kitchen and cooking area in a safe, orderly, clean and sanitary manner. Prepare and cook a variety of foods in large quantities, following prepared menus and portion control guides. Prepare special diets accurately and prepare pureed foods. Record food temperatures for meals. Maintain sanitizer buckets with quaternary solutions. Assist with serving meals and clean cooking area and serving carts. Report resident care concerns and potential issues to Administrator or Director of Nurses. Participate in orientation and ongoing training of dietary staff. Make food presentation appealing to residents. Cooperate with personnel in all departments. Supervise and work under supervision when required. Ensure all cleaning schedules are followed. Supervisory Responsibilities This job has supervisory responsibilities in the absence of the Dietary Supervisor. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. At least one year of experience as a cook in a hospital or long‑term care facility. Ability to read technical procedures and recipes. Ability to apply math concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions. Problem‑solving and reasoning abilities. Certificates and Licenses Must obtain and maintain a ServSafe Certificate. Knowledge and experience with PCC preferred. Must remain in good standing with the Department of Public Health. Physical Demands Stand or walk frequently; sit occasionally. Reach with hands and arms frequently; push/pull frequently. Talk or hear frequently; taste or smell frequently. Lift up to 50 pounds frequently. Occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Maintain visual abilities including close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception.
