Job Title: Cut-Off Operator – Plastic Extrusion Department: Production / Manufacturing
Position Summary
The Cut-Off Operator works at the end of the plastic extrusion line, monitoring and handling extruded product as it comes off the line. This role is responsible for removing precut pieces, returning off-spec or precut material to the recycle bin, and properly stacking finished product on pallets. The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced production environment while standing for extended periods.
Key Responsibilities
- Stand at the end of the extrusion line and monitor product output throughout the shift
- Remove precut or off-spec pieces from the line and place them in the designated recycle bin
- Inspect finished pieces for obvious defects, flagging any quality concerns to the supervisor
- Stack and arrange acceptable finished product neatly on pallets according to established standards
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area at the end of the line
- Keep pace with line speed to ensure smooth, uninterrupted production flow
- Communicate with machine operators regarding any irregularities in product output
- Follow all company safety policies, including proper lifting techniques and PPE requirements
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred; will consider equivalent work experience
- Prior experience in a manufacturing or production environment a plus, but not required
- Ability to stand for the duration of an 8–12 hour shift
- Ability to lift and carry up to 40–50 lbs repeatedly throughout the shift
- Basic attention to detail to distinguish acceptable product from recycle material
- Reliable attendance and a strong work ethic
- Ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively with line crew
Working Conditions
- Manufacturing plant environment; may be warm, noisy, and involve exposure to plastic odors
- Repetitive motion and prolonged standing required
- Steel-toed boots and any other required PPE must be worn at all times on the floor
