Surgical providers care for both adult and/or pediatric patients and specialize in Cardio Thoracic/Vascular Surgery. Schedule:

• Monday- Friday 7a-4p
• Will be in a different role each day (ICU,OR, Clinic, Float)
• 10-12 patients per day
• Inpatient rounding
• 1 in 6 call 7 days a week and 1 in 6 weekends
• Needs prior experience

Essential functions of the role:

• Assess the physical and mental condition of patients by performing and obtaining comprehensive or problem-focused physical examinations and medical histories.
• Monitor patients across the health care continuum and develop strategies to avoid hospitalization and/or decrease length of stay.
• Order, collect, interpret, and evaluate laboratory and other diagnostic tests to assess patient problems and health care needs.
• Prescribe, recommend and/or employ medical drug therapies or other forms of related therapeutic treatments and procedures or perform indicated procedures in accordance with their scope of practice consistent with their training and experience and policies with attention to efficacy, safety, and cost.
• Recommend interventions to modify behavior associated with health risks.
• Formulate and implement comprehensive outcomes-based patient treatment plans based on patient assessments, evidence-based medicine, standards of care, professional practice guidelines and in collaboration with physicians and other interdisciplinary team members when appropriate.
• Evaluate patient's response to health care provided and the effectiveness of care.
• Counsel patients and families regarding medical processes or procedures, management of the health illness/condition, medication, nutrition, and health promotion.
• Counsel patients about drug regimens and possible side effects or interactions with other substances such as food supplements, over the counter medications and herbal remedies.
• Maintain appropriate records detailing the patient's treatment plans and outcomes.
• Initiate timely consultation and referral when the problem exceeds scope of practice and/or expertise.
• Provide consultation level services for conditions/problems related to the Provider's specialty, scope, level of experience, and training.
• First assist/Second assist in the operating room and/or procedural setting who has met all required training (with the required level of competency).
• Perform follows-up with patient both pre and post operatively, and may also round on patients in the hospital or see patients in the Emergency Department.
• Perform invasive surgical procedures and/or advanced technological procedures including but not limited to endoscopic vein harvest related to Cardiac, Vascular, and Thoracic surgery specific to scope of practice and provider's level of competency as delegated by supervising Physician.

• Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions.

• Ability to interpret and evaluate laboratory and other diagnostic tests.
• Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the state of Texas.
• Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire or transfer.
• Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
