Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a whole house float position covering ICU, PCU, and MS units at a Level I Trauma teaching hospital, requiring a VA or compact RN license.

Whole house float position covering ICU, PCU, and Medical-Surgical units

Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours, 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM

Unit ratios average 2:1 in ICU, 5:1 in PCU, and 6:1 in MS (may flex up to 7:1)

EPIC charting system experience required

Floating required across ICU, PCU, and MS units, with staffing needs reassessed every 4 hours (may float 2-3 times per shift)

Weekend requirement of every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week scheduling block

Facility may call off up to 1 shift per 2-week period

Requirements

Active VA State or Compact RN license required (pending license accepted only for candidates holding a single-state license from a non-compact state)

Current certifications in ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS (CPI preferred)

Minimum 2 years ICU experience required, preferably in a large Level I or Level II trauma facility

Experience working with ratios of at least 1:5 across ICU, PCU, and MS units

Skilled in IV therapy, phlebotomy, PICC line management, central line care/management, arterial line management, and blood product administration

Proficient in trach management and non-invasive airway support including nasal cannula, CPAP/BiPAP, ventilator management, and chest tubes (Emerson/PleurEvac)

Experienced in cardiac monitoring, continuous IV sedation, emergency medications, and titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips

Skilled in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias and obtaining 12-lead EKG/ECG

Experience with IV insulin protocols

Teaching hospital and Trauma Level I experience preferred

Previous charge experience preferred

Additional Information

Must work at least one holiday per 13-week contract, with two holidays required if the assignment spans winter holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas/Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve/Day)

Comfort and competency working across all three specialty units (ICU, PCU, MS) is essential

Hospital is a 703-bed acute care teaching facility and the region's only Level I Trauma Center for adults and pediatrics

Magnet-designated for nursing excellence and affiliated with an academic medical school

First-time travelers are welcome to apply

Local candidates may be accepted depending on radius from the facility, with specific bill rate and eligibility rules applying to those living within 100 miles

Previous employees (per diem or permanent) must have a minimum one-year break before returning as a traveler

All time off requests must be submitted upfront with the application
