Pharmacy Technician

As a Pharmacy Technician at CVS Health, you will support the pharmacy team to deliver operational and service excellence within a retail store. You will be the first point of contact for patients and customers, ensuring prescriptions are filled promptly, safely and accurately while demonstrating empathy and genuine care.

Job Purpose And Summary

A Pharmacy Technician plays a critical role in supporting pharmacy operations, maintaining service quality and safety, and enhancing patient experiences across all points of contact including pick‑up, drive‑thru, and over the phone.

Key Responsibilities

• Follow all company SOPs at each workstation to help pharmacists manage and improve patient health.
• Adhere to pharmacy workflow procedures for each pharmacy workstation (production, pick‑up, drive‑thru, drop‑off) to ensure safe and accurate prescription fulfillment.
• Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy, creating personalized moments, offering immunizations and other services, and solving or escalating patient problems.
• Complete basic inventory activities (e.g., putting away medication deliveries, cycle counts, returns‑to‑stocks, waiting bin inventories) as permitted by law and directed by pharmacy leadership.
• Engage in a high‑performing team, embrace a growth mindset, seek opportunities to expand clinical and technical knowledge, and contribute to a safe, inclusive team dynamic.
• Remain flexible for scheduling and business needs, including voluntary travel to stores within the market.
• Comply with all relevant federal, state, and local laws, regulations, professional standards, and ethical principles, and follow CVS policies regarding controlled substances, record‑keeping, patient privacy, and security.
• Deliver additional patient health care services (e.g., immunizations, point‑of‑care testing, volunteering at off‑site clinics) where allowable by law and supported by required training and certification.

Immunization Support

• Complete additional licensure and training to obtain Technician Immunizer status for vaccine preparation and administration.
• Educate patients about vaccine importance and refer to the on‑duty pharmacist for vaccination questions.
• Monitor and respond to adverse reactions, reporting events per public health requirements.
• Collect and document patient information and monitor vaccine supplies.

Required Qualifications

• Comply with any state board of pharmacy requirements or laws governing pharmacy practice, including age, education, and licensure/certification.
• If the state board does not mandate a minimum age, must be at least 16 years old.
• If the state board does not mandate a minimum educational requirement, must have a high school diploma or equivalent, or be actively enrolled in a high school or high school equivalency program.
• State‑level licensure and national certification requirements vary by state; consult the board for details.

  • Remain mobile and upright for extended periods, lift and handle items, reach overhead, use fingers for tasks, and occasionally lift up to 20 lbs.
• Any additional tasks as directed by Supervisor or Manager.

Preferred Qualifications

• 1–3 years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician.
• Previous experience in pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service settings.
• Ability to work in the home store and at other market locations to meet business needs.
