Position Title: Senior Programs Accountant

FLSA Status: Salaried /Exempt
Location: Church located in Jamaica , Queens NY

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday 9:00am -5:00pm

Salary Rang e: $70,000 - $85,000 annually, commensurate with education, certifications, and experience.

 

Position Summary

Allen Nonprofit Programs (ACNPP) is seeking an experienced Senior Programs Accountant to oversee accounting operations, grant compliance, financial reporting, budgeting, and audit support for a portfolio of government and privately funded programs. This role ensures compliance with nonprofit accounting standards (GAAP), funding regulations, and internal controls while serving as a key financial partner to program leadership and executive management.

Key Responsibilities

Manage day-to-day accounting functions, including general ledger, reconciliations, month-end/year-end close, accounts payable and receivable, and financial reporting.

Oversee financial management of city, state, federal, and private grants and contracts.

Monitor grant expenditures, budgets, reimbursements, and compliance with funding requirements and Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200).

Prepare financial statements, budget-to-actual reports, cash flow analyses, and board financial reports.

Coordinate audits, government reviews, and regulatory compliance activities, including support for Single Audits and IRS Form 990 preparation.

Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and financial processes.

Partner with program managers and leadership to support budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and compliance initiatives.

Provide guidance and training to staff on grant management and financial compliance requirements.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field required; CPA or CPA candidate preferred.

5-7 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in nonprofit accounting.

Proven experience managing city, state, and federally funded grants and contracts.

Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting, government funding regulations, financial reporting, and audit requirements.

Experience with reimbursement-based contracts, Single Audits, and multi-funded human services programs preferred.
