Technician IV (2424) Nondestructive Testing (NDT) *Temporary* - ATSS Position until December 2028 with the possibility of becoming permanent. Evaluates and inspects to applicable standard procedures and criteria, makes minor adaptations and modifications, performs project assignments involving complex features guided by codes, standards, and other precedents of the discipline; analyzes and evaluates the results of an inspection using techniques prescribed by applicable TMs and standards; and accomplishes tasks that require investigation of many variables. Duties and Responsibilities Provides NDT support in the area of large and small caliber weapon systems, wheeled and tracked vehicles, and/or materials with assigned responsibility within the subject matter field for detailed analysis and evaluation of a variety of test items. Projects and problems characterized by the need to establish and assess the safety and/or condition of the test item, verify proof acceptance criteria, and provide reliable test support. Requires knowledge of at least one of the major NDT methods (MT, ET, RT, UT) and NAS‑410 certification. Follows standard inspection procedures, develops new procedures when necessary, and applies knowledge of material characteristics, especially as related to weapon systems and vehicles; evaluates possible approaches, devises, modifies, performs or directs inspections; evaluates and interprets data; and prepares written reports summarizing the test methods and providing recommendations and conclusions. Develops and performs NDT evaluation methods for large caliber proof‑acceptance tests, determines adequacy and correct type and method for inspecting small caliber weapon systems, and establishes inspection method requirements for unique test items. Evaluates new instruments, equipment, and material in the specialty area, including those that may automate methods currently performed manually, for use by this activity and which may influence data presented and testing work performed at other proving grounds, other commands, other services, and the like. Evaluates tests and methods in the specialty area to determine deficiencies and need for useful improvement and to effect efficiencies. Determines instrumentation, equipment, and system requirements and provides input to the activity plan for acquisition of new instrumentation, equipment, and materiel, and modernization of existing items. Prepares and updates specifications, standards, and procedures. Qualifications Must have 7 years of applicable experience or at least 60 credit hours or an associate's degree and 5 years applicable experience; or 30 credit hours and 6 years applicable experience; or completion of a formal training program and 5 years applicable experience; or a bachelor's degree and 3 years applicable experience; or a master's degree and 1 year applicable experience. Shall possess basic computer skills. Shall possess National Aerospace Standard‑410 (NAS‑410) certification. Shall possess a license to operate forklift(s) and other required support equipment. Shall possess an Overhead Bridge Crane Operator License. Physical Qualifications The work of this position is performed in the field where you are subject to the environment and sometimes in an environmentally controlled office environment. Must be capable of sitting and entering data on a computer keyboard for extended periods of time. Must be able to view a computer monitor for extended periods of time. Must be capable of lifting 25 lbs. unassisted. Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for work tasks assigned.
