The UNT Dallas College of Law invites applications for the position of Career Counselor in the Office of Career and Professional Development. The UNT Dallas College of Law is a public law school in downtown Dallas. Our mission is to promote justice and advance human potential through the enterprise of legal education. Position Overview
The UNT Dallas College of Law invites applications for the position of Career Counselor in the Office of Career and Professional Development. Candidates should possess enthusiastic support for the mission of the university to transform the lives of students, families and communities by providing highquality, studentfocused education in preparation for tomorrows careers, and its vision to create the place of choice where students are inspired to learn, faculty are inspired to teach and the community is inspired to support.Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Career and Professional Development, the Career Counselor is responsible for providing employment counseling and career education for law students and alumni. The Career Counselor teaches, advises, and counsels law students and alumni in their career development and all phases of the job search process. The Career Counselor will help law students and alumni shape and attain their shortand longterm career goals and provide job placement assistance to law students and alumni. The Career Counselor contributes to program design and administration and develops career planning and placement publications, brochures, handbooks, and handouts. All facets of career and professional development extend to assist alumni.As a wellconnected, knowledgeable expert on the legal job market, and career counseling principles, the Career Counselor accomplishes outcomes by providing individually tailored, clientdriven career counseling as well as by creating, planning, developing, and implementing cuttingedge programs, networking events, other activities (including social media), services, and resources that address a full array of traditional as well as nontraditional practice areas and settings. The Career Counselor will ensure our students have the best available access to networking and job opportunities as soon as they arrive on campus. Based on ongoing research, analysis, assessment and trendspotting, the Career Counselor designs and develops, and implements an array of workshops and programs, services, and resources (including online guides and webinars) to meet the career needs of our students.The Career Counselor will also collaborate with other College of Law departments and individuals to understand their needs and goals and explore and develop mutually beneficial programs, resources, and services. The Career Counselor will also maintain and and enhance the College of Law professional network of potential employers, other law school legal career professionals, and others in the legal field who may be in a position to provide information and assistance to our students.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and three (3) years related experience, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of procedures and concepts within own discipline and a basic knowledge of these elements in other discipline Basic knowledge of how own area integrates within the subfunction Ability to use judgement based on practice and precedence Ability to exchange information using tact and diplomacy Ability to consider information and data from multiple sources, evaluate the information quickly, and draw accurate conclusions for best possible resolution
Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications: J.D. Degree 1 year of experience in the legal profession Advanced knowledge of career development theories Knowledge of needs assessment theory, processes, and practice, workshop and program design and implementation Knowledge of UNT Dallas College of Law programs

Required License/Registration/Certifications Job Duties
- Researches and analyzes the current state of the legal services and legal job markets and forecasts emerging trends in those markets.
- Identifies existing and up-and-coming career and job options, assesses (on a continuing basis) their short and long term feasibility for our alumni attorneys, and explores alternatives to traditional legal practice.
- Researches and periodically assesses the evolving career development needs of our students.
- Manages improvements, revisions, changes, and adjustments to the existing array of career consulting services, programs, and resources AND devises, develops and implements entirely new services, programs and resources.
- Maintains and enhances his/her own professional network and leverages it on behalf of students and alumni.
- Develops and oversees presentation and delivery of broad and complex career focused programs and events workshops, and resources.
- Works with career services staff on specific administrative tasks.
- Determines the most innovative and effective media for delivering content online, print, blogs, social networking website posts, twitter, live webcasting, etc.
- Provides one-on-one, individually tailored and customer driven career consulting/coaching/advising services to students. Assists students in conducting their own self assessments.
- Provides students not only with general or specific career advice based on his/her expert knowledge of the legal job market but specific job leads and networking contacts to achieve students career objectives developed through continuing cultivation and expansion of the Law Schools professional network.
- Develops and critiques law student application materials.
- Participates in panel discussions and presentations and researches and writes articles relating to career and professional development and the legal job market.
- Communicating with others to exchange information.
- Lifting and Moving objects up to 20 pounds.
