Physician (Ft) Urologist

Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval – award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply. Qualifications United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education: Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree in medicine or osteopathic medicine from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year of completion. License: Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program. (Approved residencies include ACGME‑certified programs leading to board certification, AOA‑certified programs leading to board certification, one year of post‑medical‑school training followed by two years of independent practice, or non‑U.S. residency programs followed by a minimum of three years of independent practice in the U.S.). Residents in accredited programs who meet the basic requirements may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) on an intermittent basis with a restricted scope of practice. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Preferred Experience: Board Certified by the American Board of Urology. Physical Requirements: Lifting up to 35 pounds – intermittently. Moderate carrying (15–35 pounds) – intermittently. Lifting over 35 pounds with assistive devices in accordance with the Safe Patient Handling Policy – except in emergent situations. Pulling, pushing, reaching above the shoulders – intermittently. Walking, standing, kneeling, and repeated bending – intermittently. Duties Duties involve diseases of the male and female urinary tract systems—kidneys, adrenal glands, ureters, urinary bladder, urethra, and male reproductive organs. Comprehensive care of ambulatory patients in the outpatient Urology clinic as well as care of all inpatients and patients presenting to the Emergency Department. Performs clinic examinations, manages new patient consultations, diagnoses, and treatment. Participates in the operating room commensurate with technical abilities: performs pre‑operative and post‑operative evaluation for surgical patients. Participates in the team approach to ensure appropriate patient assessments; anticipates patient care needs; prevents avoidable complications; and achieves optimal patient conditions. Adheres to surgical care in accordance with ethical principles. Performs appropriate charting including timely documentation of patient assessment and plan of care.
