Site Technician III/ LEAD

The Site Technician III/ Lead; is responsible for small projects,mowing, weed eating, seeding, planting, weed control, equipmentmaintenance, snow and ice control, asphalt or concrete work, brickor stonework, demolition, grading, and/or site cleanup tasks.Assist in field renovations, grading, and/or site clean-up tasksand will assist Facilities maintenance staff on projects assigned.Any other duties as assigned. Working independently and exercisinggood judgment and discretion. Essential Functions and Responsibilities 1. As essential personnel: you are expected to be available in theevent of school closings, delays, shutdowns, and any emergenciesincluding clean up required because of severe weather incidents.Performs snow removal activities as assigned. Such as shoveling,salting, etc. Facilities Management Division employees areessential to the overall success of Liberty University and itsday-to-day functions, especially during ongoing campus events suchas Winter Fest, Orientation, Convocation, Commencement, CFAW, andsummer camps amongst other planned and unplanned events throughoutthe year. Must be available to work scheduled and unscheduled hoursas emergency needs arise. 2. Reports to work at the required time and performs duties asassigned by the Grounds Supervisor/ Manager and/or Director ofGrounds. 3. Responsible for wearing the appropriate Personal ProtectiveEquipment (PPE) while operating Grounds related equipment includingbut not limited to; protective eye wear, ear protection, hard hat,gloves, steel-toed boots, respirators/ masks, reflective safetyvests, and sunscreen. 4. Responsible for wearing a harness with a lanyard and other PPEif operating aerial lifts to perform & complete assignedjobs. 5. Works with 2-3 employees. 6. Performs planting and related activities. 7. Performs routine lawn maintenance including grass cutting, lawnedging, pulling weeds, and other routine lawn-maintenanceactivities. Uses lawn mower and related equipment. 8. Provides seasonal lawn care, such as spring and fallclean-up. 9. Moves materials and equipment and performs related duties toassist in landscaping and hardscaping. 10. Digs holes and trenches and excavates for landscaping andhardscaping using picks and shovels or related equipment. 11. Hauls or spreads topsoil, gravel, sand, mulch, or relatedmaterials using wheelbarrows and rakes. 12. Hand -finishes grade, and apply seed, straw, or sod. 13. Applies chemicals under the direction of a licensed chemicalapplicator. 14. Maintains assigned equipment and notifies LandscapingSupervisor of needed repairs. Responds politely to customerinquiries and projects a professional image. 15. Operates light/ heavy-duty vehicles, riding mowers, backhoes,and push/ riding mowers, rakes, shovels, blowers, sprayers, chainsaws, hydraulic boom, small tools and any other equipmentassociated with turf care. 16. For a project to be considered completed, the Site TechnicianIII/ Lead must ensure that the project has been fully inspected;all equipment, tools, and materials have been secured and put away;all blockades, ropes, and tape have been removed. 17. Performs Grounds duties including weeding, mowing, trimming,edging, planting and other related Ground maintenanceactivities. 18. Responsible for proper and safe use and maintenance of allequipment, tools, and chemicals related to the Grounds team. 19. Works closely with the entire Grounds Teams on all phases ofground maintenance including weeding, mulching, and all otherrelated tasks. 20. Work with Grounds team, as assigned, when needed to support newplantings, plant removals. 21. Works on special projects as assigned. 22. All other duties as assigned. 23. Remains abreast of existing and emerging technologies, process,products, services and leading industry performancebenchmarks. 24. Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fosteringLU’s mission. Qualifications, Credentials, and Competencies This position requires a high school degree or GED. Minimum of 5+years of related experience preferred, or an equivalent combinationof education and experience. State Driver’s license and insurablewith company’s agent required. The successful individual must havea working knowledge of grounds maintenance, and equipmentoperations. Must have a current CDL or be willing to acquire onewithin the first year of employment. Must have or exhibitleadership skills and/or have leadership experience. Pressurewashing, asphalt, concrete, construction, lawn care, landscapeand/or hardscape experience is preferred. Must be able tounderstand and follow instructions, and work under limitedSupervision. Must be able to work well with the public andco-workers and present a positive attitude. Clean and professionalappearance. Must be courteous, detailed oriented, self-motivated,diligent, trustworthy, possess strong organizational skills andwell-developed communication skills. Must be able to lift up to 75+pounds and perform duties of the ground’s maintenance andlandscaping outdoors in typical Virginia Climate. This positionmight require the use of aerial lifts. Employee must be willing andable obtain aerial lift certifications, operate, and work fromvarious aerial lifts and heights. Have or be able to obtain achemical spray certification. Desire to work with a team toaccomplish goals. Urgency to grow and improve. Must have basicknowledge of occupational hazards and appropriate safetyprecautions. Certifications obtained while employed by LibertyUniversity at the expense of the employer will be reimbursed backto the University upon voluntary termination (resignation) for thefirst 12 months after acquiring it. Proof of a valid Virginiadriver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insuranceis required.
