Candidates with felony convictions are disqualified from employment in this job classification.* Must obtain Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Training & Arizona Criminal Justice Information Services Terminal Operator Certificate (ACJIS TOC), within 6 months of hire* Must have the ability to type 35 words-per-minute* Must pass vision and hearing tests within required parameters of corrected eyesight to 20/20 and hearing in both ears not less than 40db* Must be able to work on a schedule which will include nights, weekends, and holidays to ensure 24/7 coverage. **Tell me more...**The Peoria Police Department Communications Section is the lifeline between our community calling for help and our officers who respond to their calls. We answer 9-1-1 and non-emergency calls and dispatch resources using state-of-the-art technology. **COME JOIN OUR TEAM!**We are seeking strong team players who effectively communicate, are proficient with advancing technology, and can multitask and quickly adapt to change. **ABOUT THE CAREER**Peoria Police Communication Specialists are cross trained as call takers and radio dispatchers. They answer emergency and non-emergency calls using a multi-line telephone and 9-1-1 systems. Responsibilities include receiving, processing, and dispatching calls for service and providing information to personnel. This position requires shift work, and all employees must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays, as required. Also, lateral, full-time 911 Dispatchers have the ability to earn paid time off (up to 80 hours) based on previous experience in the same job function through our Award Leave program, if eligible. **THE HIRING PROCESS:** **Submit an Application**Please visit our employee page to apply online. **Interview**The most qualified applicants will be scheduled for an oral board interview. Oral boards may also be conducted via Teams, if applicants are out of state. **Background Investigation and Polygraph**A thorough background investigation will be conducted on the most qualified applicant(s) for the position. **Conditional Job Offer (CJO)**A conditional job offer is a preliminary offer of employment that depends on the applicant meeting certain requirements. A conditional job offer is not final until the applicant fulfills all the conditions and receives a final job offer. **Medical Examination and Drug Screen**Applicants must pass a drug screen and vision and hearing tests.
