Automotive Mechanic

Performs skilled crafts and trades work in the maintenance and repair of complex diesel and/or gasoline vehicles and light equipment.

Requirements: Five (5) years of experience in automotive or diesel mechanics OR Two (2) years of experience as a Brevard County Auto Mechanic I. Successful completion of course work in automotive or diesel mechanics or closely related field at a post-secondary school may be substituted on a year for year basis for a maximum of one year (1,080 class hours [1 school year] = 1 year of experience; 120 class hours = 1 month of experience). Additional qualifying education and/or experience may be substituted on a year for year basis.

Special Requirements: Must possess, or obtain prior to employment, a valid Florida Class B Commercial Driver's License, including appropriate endorsements depending on area of assignment and must maintain said license and endorsements during the term of employment. Must possess certification in, or proof of successful completion of, "Heating and Air Conditioning" from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (NASE) to service motor vehicle A/C systems. Requires the following ASE certifications: A1 - Engine Repair A5 - Brakes A7 - Air Conditioning PLUS two (2) additional ASE certifications. Must possess, or obtain within twelve (12) months of employment, a valid State of Florida Public Health Pest Control License, in accordance with the specifications set forth in Florida Statute 388 and Rule 5E-13 of the Florida Administrative Code. In the event of a hurricane, major storm, natural or manmade disaster which may threaten the area, the employee will be required to perform emergency duties as directed.
