Special Education Teacher River Valley Charter School, Newburyport, Massachusetts Job Details Job ID: 5705419 Application Deadline: Posted until filled Posted: May 11, 2026 12:00 AM (UTC) Starting Date: To Be Determined Position Type: Full-time Compensation: 10‑month position; salary commensurate with experience Job Description Improve the skills of students with disabilities through direct teaching using a variety of instructional methods in a Montessori setting. Evaluate students to determine eligibility for services. Monitor ongoing student progress. Consult with general‑education teachers and other staff about the educational needs and programs for students with disabilities. Provide information to parents regarding their child’s disabilities, educational program, and progress. Direct instructional assistants in program implementation and monitoring of special‑education programs. Teach students in small groups, individually, and in large groups across various subjects and settings (general education, resource room, sub‑separate classroom, multi‑purpose rooms) to improve performance in identified areas. Work collaboratively with other special‑education teachers, general‑education teachers, instructional assistants, and therapists to share information timely and coordinate efforts/programs for individual students. Write comprehensive evaluation reports that synthesize findings and communicate results to parents and professionals, meeting district and DESE timelines. Supervise and direct instructional assistants regarding individual student needs and program implementation; document paraprofessional performance and response to supervision. Observe designated students in various settings for evaluation purposes, collecting data and providing consultation to the educational team. Prepare for and participate in team meetings, providing detailed data on student progress and developing or revising IEPs using district software per specified timelines. Collaborate with other professionals to write accurate progress reports meeting district/regulatory descriptions and timelines. Administer and summarize assessment data/information to document student progress and inform district administrators about ongoing or changing student needs. Provide information to district administrators for program planning, budget development, and staffing needs throughout the year. Perform any other duties assigned by the Executive Director and/or Directors of Special Education. Reports To Executive Director and Directors of Special Education Job Requirements Qualifications: Special Education Teaching License (State of Massachusetts) Strong collaboration skills Excellent organization and multi‑tasking skills Excellent written communication skills Experience teaching reading, writing, and mathematics to students with disabilities Experience supporting students with social and emotional needs At least 2 years of relevant experience preferred. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
