Safety Specialist

Field Safety Representative- Civil Construction Location: Greater Los Angeles area (Carson, Wilmington, Long Beach, and surrounding communities) Initial assignment will be in Santa Clarita, CA for approximately 5 months Employment Type: Full-Time Compensation: $45.00 - $55.00 per hour (based on experience and qualifications) Standard Schedule: Monday - Friday | 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM (5x8 schedule) must be flexible for project needs Position Overview A growing construction contractor is seeking an experienced Safety Representative to support an electrical infrastructure project in the Santa Clarita area. This individual will be responsible for promoting a strong safety culture, ensuring regulatory compliance, and proactively identifying and mitigating workplace hazards. The initial assignment will focus on a civil construction project involving excavation activities for new electrical duct bank installation. Upon successful completion of the project, the Safety Representative will transition into a permanent role supporting multiple construction sites throughout Carson, Wilmington, Long Beach, and surrounding Southern California markets. This position requires a hands-on safety professional who is comfortable working in the field alongside operations teams and serving as a trusted resource for both management and craft personnel. Key Responsibilities Promote and reinforce a proactive safety culture across all project sites Ensure compliance with company safety policies and all applicable OSHA, Cal/OSHA, and environmental regulations Conduct daily jobsite safety inspections and identify potential hazards Perform safety audits and document findings, corrective actions, and follow-up measures Lead and facilitate safety orientations, toolbox talks, and health & safety training programs Monitor excavation and trenching operations to ensure safe work practices are followed Investigate incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions and develop preventative action plans Collaborate with project management, superintendents, foremen, and field personnel to maintain safe work environments Maintain accurate safety records, reports, and regulatory documentation Participate in project planning meetings to identify and mitigate potential risks before work begins Support continuous improvement initiatives related to environmental health and safety performance Serve as a safety resource and coach to field personnel Qualifications 3+ years of construction safety experience supporting civil, utility, heavy industrial, or infrastructure project Current CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician) certification Current CPR/First Aid certification Competent Person certification for Excavation and Shoring Strong knowledge of OSHA and Cal/OSHA regulation Experience supporting excavation, trenching, underground utility, or electrical infrastructure project Ability to conduct incident investigations and root cause analysis Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard safety documentation systems Valid driver's license and reliable transportation Preferred Skills Experience supporting electrical utility or underground duct bank project Bilingual (English/Spanish) communication skill Majority of work will be performed outdoors on active construction sites Frequent walking, standing, climbing, and navigating uneven terrain Ability to work in varying weather conditions Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds may be required Travel between project sites within the Greater Los Angeles area will be required after the initial assignment #J-18808-Ljbffr Project Resource Collective
