Electrical Technician / Maintenance

Maintenance Mechanics Southwest Shipyard L.P., 8502 Cypress St, Houston, TX 77012. Pay and Schedule $18–$24 / hr (DOE). Monday‑Friday, second shift. Helper positions available. Job Summary This position is responsible for the upkeep of buildings and mechanical systems, including repair, maintenance, installation of system components, troubleshooting, and facility maintenance. Additionally, the role may involve emergency repairs, requiring prompt troubleshooting. Maintenance Mechanics will work with large production machines and heavy equipment. Experience with 480 V, industrial settings, and 3‑phase systems is required. Responsibilities Perform pump service/maintenance activities, troubleshooting, electrical work, facility maintenance, preventative maintenance, and mechanical work. Take accurate measurements, complete documentation, and reference proper standards/documentation to ensure quality craftsmanship. Utilize hand tools effectively (wrenches, sockets, screwdrivers, impact tools, hammers, mallets, grinders, measuring meters). Operate, maintain, and repair powered industrial trucks, aerial platforms, and bridge cranes. Maintain tools, equipment, stock levels (parts and lubes) for the department; small hand tools must be furnished by the employee; specialized tools furnished by Southwest Shipyard L.P. or as directed by the Maintenance Manager. Conduct preventative maintenance duties on pumps, vacuum pumps, submergible pumps, and directly acting steam pumps. Dialogue with yard and vendor personnel to perform maintenance or repair needs on mechanical equipment. Assess damages and diagnose possible problems with equipment (pumps, compressors, welding machines, heavy equipment, generators, motors, hand tools, boilers, cranes, flares). Perform quality assurance inspection of parts according to SOP requirements. Conduct testing, inspecting, repairing, and re‑assembling basic equipment, components, and systems including, but not limited to, overhead bridge cranes, hoists, gear boxes, forklifts, company vehicles, pneumatic and mechanical systems, power transmission components, combustion engines, boiler systems, and hydraulic systems. Maintain close communication with Supervisor on status of daily activities and any issues that may arise. Assist in planning and preparing daily schedule to facilitate efficient completion of duties. Adhere to and ensure that all work activities are performed in accordance with established safety and environmental standards, regulations, and policies. Perform other related duties as assigned. Minimum Job Requirements Proficient in English; bilingual English/Spanish preferred. Ability to multitask, learn quickly, and meet deadlines as needed. Strong attention to detail, with a strong focus on quality and customer satisfaction. Self‑starter who can operate without direct supervision, with a strong sense of urgency. Ability to effectively communicate in a professional manner. Detail‑oriented, steady‑handed, able to follow instructions. Understand and apply the Company Quality Manual and procedures described and required. Manage time and tasks effectively and efficiently. Physical/Mental Requirements Walk, step, climb, or otherwise move from one location to another, which may be of varying heights and access parameters. Stand, stoop, bend, crouch, kneel, squat, climb, crawl, or sit for long periods. Perform repetitive movements by feet, shoulders, arms, wrists, hands, and back while performing work. Climb stairs and/or vertical ladders of varying heights. Work in confined work areas and/or elevated heights. Lift objects minimum 10 lb, with maximum single‑person lift limit of 50 lb, with frequent lifting and carrying. Adapt to temperature changes, outdoor conditions, and prolonged exposure to dusty, wet, or humid conditions, loud noises, and vibration. Visually inspect equipment and verify information, often in small print. Drive and/or operate heavy machinery safely, staying alert and aware of surroundings at all times. Apply sideways/upward/downward pressure to tighten and loosen hardware. Experience & Qualifications High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred. Minimum 5 years’ experience in industrial and/or manufacturing maintenance. Valid Driver License with ability to maintain a good driving record. Basic computer knowledge and proficiency; intermediate experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, etc.). Demonstrated basic mathematical skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide; whole numbers, common fractions, decimals; calculating ratios and percentages). Forklift experience required; certification preferred. Bilingual – Spanish preferred. Regular attendance and punctuality are required of all employees.
