Assistant Professor of Journalism Assistant Professor of Journalism, Department of Communications, College of Communications, California State University, Fullerton. Tenure‑track position beginning August 2027. Position Overview Teach core and elective courses in the journalism concentration; advise the Daily Titan student‑run newsroom; conduct research, scholarship or creative work relevant to journalism and mass communication; mentor students; collaborate with colleagues; teach evening and graduate courses as needed. Responsibilities Teach courses such as digital news reporting and writing, principles and ethics of journalism, and the Daily Titan news capstone. Advise and mentor Daily Titan news capstone students. Conduct scholarship or creative activities in journalism and mass communication. Collaborate with faculty and participate in department and university service. Engage with a culturally diverse student body. Required Qualifications Ph.D. or terminal degree in mass communication, journalism, or related field by appointment date. Demonstrated potential for excellence in undergraduate teaching. Demonstrated journalism experience. Ability to teach the Daily Titan news capstone and at least one listed course. Ability to balance teaching, scholarship, and service activities. Effective oral and written communication with a diverse student and faculty community. Preferred Qualifications Evidence of successful college‑level teaching. Scholarly research or creative accomplishments in journalism or related fields. Experience advising news industry or college news media. Experience incorporating emerging communications technologies such as AI and data visualization. Contribution to accreditation, curriculum development, or assessment of student learning. Professional network in journalism and mass communication associations. Anticipated hiring range: $6,851 to $6,985 per month. Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. Summer research grants, moving expenses, start‑up funds, and reduced teaching load may be available.
