Job Summary

To assist in the administration of the school food service programs by assessing nutritional needs, aiding in menu planning and evaluation, executing budgetary control, providing operational support, and other functions as assigned in accordance with federal and state laws and regulations, local and state health ordinances, and school district policies.

Duties And Responsibilities

• Collaborate in the development of menus for the district that comply with the guidelines established by the United States Department of Agriculture.
• Use analytical or scientific software such as recipe/menu analysis software, Websmartt, and WinSnap.
• Perform nutrient analysis on all menus to ensure that menus are meeting USDA target requirements for all nutrients.
• Visit schools to ensure that nutritious meals are prepared, served, recorded, and reported according to guidelines established by USDA.
• Work with staff on the development and implementation of quality recipes and effective techniques to improve food quality in school meals.
• Assess student preferences as it relates to menu implementation.
• Focus on continuous quality improvement by balancing nutritional requirements with meals designed to attract and please students, staff, and guest.
• Ensure USDA/Commodity food distributions coincide with the cycle menu in order to maximize USDA food utilization.
• Complete USDA compliance workbooks.
• Complete and distribute production records for all menus.
• Assist the department's director and supervisors in preparing for Federal and State reviews and audits.
• Prepare department reports as requested including monthly and annual reports for the State Department of Education.
• Maintain meal accountability and budgetary data.
• Assist in preparing budgets.
• Calculate monthly plate cost per school.
• Assist with the preparation, coordination, and monitoring of the district's wellness policy to ensure compliance.
• Perform periodic reassessment of HAACP and wellness policy.
• Implement programs targeted to increase participation.
• Promote positive public relations for the district through the publication of menus, nutrient analyses, and program information.
• Conduct nutrition education classes in areas of nutrition and diet.
• Participate in training programs and staff meetings.
• Collaborate with child nutrition programs director or area supervisors in nutritional matters.
• Serve as liaison between the local school sites and child nutrition to accommodate students with special nutrition and food needs.
• Participate in IEP/504 meetings involving nutritional needs when requested.
• Possess knowledge of policies, procedures, and services of the Board of Education.
• Gather and reports statuses and information associated with assigned projects.
• Compare or inspect data against the industry standard.
• Establish and maintain filing systems.
• Follow recommendations of child nutrition programs director in matters of program operations.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition. Master's Degree preferred.
• Minimum three(3) years of experience in a related field preferred; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration.
• Proven problem-solving and leadership skills, demonstrates high ethical standards, accountability, and integrity.
• Current Serv-Safe Certification or eligible to obtain according to the requirements set forth by the Jefferson County Health Department.
• Registration (RD) and AL Licensure (LD) as a Dietitian/Nutritionist or Registered Dietitian Eligible (RDE) preferred.
