Controls Technician III

The Control Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing industrial control systems and automation equipment. This role ensures reliable operation of PLCs, instrumentation, sensors, and control networks to support a safe and efficient production process. Responsibilities Install, configure, and maintain PLC, HMI and SCADA systems. Troubleshoot and repair electrical, instrumentation, and control systems. Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on control equipment. Calibrate and maintain field instruments (pressure, flow, temperature, level). Analyze system faults and implement corrective actions. Support continuous improvement and automation projects. Read and interpret electrical drawings, P&IDs, and control schematics. Work with maintenance and operations team to minimize downtime. Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations (e.g. OSHA). Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance and systems changes. Software, Platforms & Tools PLC Programming Software: Rockwell Automation (Studio 5000 / RSLogix 5000), Siemens (optional). HMI / SCADA Platforms: Ignition SCADA (Inductive Automation) – visualization, alarming, reporting and database integration; Factory Talk View / Factory Talk SE & ME. Industrial Networking & Communication: Ethernet/IP, Modbus (RTU/TCP), Profibus, Profinet. Network troubleshooting tools: Wireshark, RSLinx. CMMS PM: FIIX CMMS or similar platforms. Drives & Motion Software: data & diagnosis tools. Ignition Tag Historian and report modules, trend and diagnostics tools for process analysis. Calibration software and handheld communicators (HART, Field Communicator). Laptop-based diagnostic and programming tools. Requirements Associate degree or technical certification in Electrical Engineering Technology, Automation, or related field is nice to have. Manager will look at candidates with additional work experience in lieu of degree. 5+ years of experience working with industrial control systems. Strong knowledge of PLCs (Allen-Bradley), motor control systems and VFDs, industrial networks (ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus). Ability to troubleshoot electrical and instrumentation systems. Familiarity with safety practices such as LOTO and arc flash is nice to have; candidate will be trained on both. Experience in manufacturing environments (food & beverage, dairy, or processing plants). Strong experience with SCADA platform (development, troubleshooting, and upgrades). Understanding of process control loops and PID tuning. Ability to work with CMMS systems. Preferred Qualifications Problem solving and analytical thinking. Attention to detail. Strong communication and teamwork. Time management and ability to prioritize tasks. Technical troubleshooting expertise. Work Environment Industrial / Manufacturing setting.
