Atlanta VA Medical Center (VAMC), a Joint Commission, designated medical facility sits on 26 acres in Decatur, Georgiajust minutes from downtown Atlanta. The main medical center is a level 1A tertiary care facility providing patient-centered healthcare via an array of comprehensive medical, surgical, geriatric specialty services, as well as state-ofthe-art diagnostic testing throughout 14 sites of care. With 466 inpatient beds, including a 120-bed Community Living Center, a 40-bed domiciliary, and a 21-bed Residential Treatment Program, the Atlanta VAMC is uniquely positioned to serve the healthcare needs of more than 130,000 enrolled Veterans living in 50 counties across northeast Georgia. The Medical Center, also a teaching hospital, provides hands-on and state-of-the-art technology, education and research to residents in collaboration with Emory University School of Medicine and Morehouse School of Medicine.

Requirements

• Providing professional nursing care principles, practices and procedures required to assess needs of patients;
• Knowledge of pharmaceuticals, their desired effects, side effects, and complications of their use; recognizing adverse signs and symptoms which are not always apparent and to react promptly in emergency situations including the implementation of life saving procedures;
• Providing counseling, guidance and health instruction to patients; and
• Identifying disease entities in order to recognize complications and therapeutic interventions required.
• Provide a wide range of professional nursing duties according to established professional nursing principles, practices, concepts and procedures in the Operating Room (OR) setting for peri- and post-operative care of recovering surgical patients from extensive and complex surgical procedures by applying nursing requirements before, during and immediately after surgery for various surgical procedures, monitoring and applying treatment techniques,
• Educating on postoperative care; manage and treat patients with peri- and post-operative problems; perform highly specialized nursing assignments appropriate to the various age of the patient served; apply knowledge of sterile and aseptic techniques; maintains, monitors and operates specialized equipment and instruments for surgical procedures;

Qualifications

• Candidates must possess a bachelor's degree in Nursing and eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement provision -OR- Possess of a bachelor's degree in Nursing and at least one full year of professional nursing experience-OR- Possess a diploma or associate degree in professional nursing
• Must possess a current, valid, unrestricted nursing license in a state of Georgia
• Must have a minimum of 36 continuous months experience in a med/surg nursing environment during the last 36 months
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as approved by the American Heart Association (AHA) is mandatory for all specialties.
• Evidence of current immunizations is required
