Technical Assistant
The Technical Assistant/Engine Storekeeper is responsible for managing all spare parts and materials in stores and engine rooms, ensuring accurate inventory control and efficient provisioning. This role also oversees the potable water system sanitation to USPH and company standards, monitors chemical levels, and supports the operation and maintenance of water systems across the vessel, including pools and spas where applicable. The incumbent must work safely, follow Safety, Quality, and Environmental policies, and be flexible to perform other duties as assigned by supervision.
Key Responsibilities
Manage spare parts and materials inventory in stores and engine rooms using AMOS for receiving, issuing, storing, and inventory control.
Label, tag, repackage, and place items in the correct bins; verify deliveries against requisitions and update AMOS accordingly.
Ensure all repaired items carry a tag with the repairer’s name and date; maintain traceable records.
Monitor and maintain potable water systems (bunkering, storage, distribution, and related spa facilities) and pool/spa water systems; track treatment of chemical levels (e.g., chlorine) and log adjustments.
Ensure vital water treatment monitors have backups; manage and order spare parts and chemicals as needed.
Calibrate, operate, and supervise startup/shutdown procedures for water systems safely.
Provide training support for the Technical Assistant team and assist with daily sanitation engineering duties as required.
Assist with packing items for repair or shipment and coordinate with vendors and shipboard teams for timely repairs.
Maintain a clean, organized work environment; ensure proper labeling, storage, and safety compliance for chemicals and equipment.
Perform other duties as assigned by supervision to support vessel operations.
Qualifications & Training
Minimum 2 years of experience in a marine or similar environment; strong knowledge of spare parts management.
Proficient in AMOS software; solid computer skills (MS Office: Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and general computer literacy.
Working knowledge of Windows operating systems and ability to navigate multiple software platforms.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to coordinate projects, set priorities, resolve issues, and work independently.
Technical knowledge of marine spare parts and water treatment systems; ability to calibrate monitors and safely manage startup/shutdown procedures.
Preferred: Experience with potable water systems and pool/spa water management.
Language Requirements
Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly, and cordially with guests and crew.
Ability to read and write English to understand and interpret written procedures; effectively present information and respond to questions from guests, supervisors, and co-workers.
Additional languages are advantageous but not required.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
Physical: Regularly stand, walk, and use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell. Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Fine motor skills required for equipment and control adjustments.
Vision: Close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Environmental: Must be able to participate in emergency lifesaving procedures and drills; work in shipboard environments with exposure to heat, cold, humidity, noise, and confined spaces; wear appropriate PPE; be available to work in shifts and respond to on-call tasks as required. Full use of arms, legs, vision, hearing, and communication abilities is required to perform duties effectively.
