Duties & Responsibilities Purpose of Position : The class of positions encompasses responsible clinical and administrative work of varying degrees of difficulty and responsibility, involving day‑to‑day tasks in an operating segment of the Radiology department. Responsibilities include operating x‑ray equipment, developing images, preparing radiological areas, equipment, supplies, and contrast materials, and performing related supervisory, administrative, and clinical activities. There are two types of assignments: Specialized Imaging Assignments and Supervisory Assignments . For Specialized Imaging Assignments, duties involve typical tasks of Assignment Levels I and II, with additional LevelIII tasks as applicable. For Supervisory Assignments, in addition to lower‑level duties, the role includes LevelIII responsibilities. Examples Of Typical Tasks Assignment LevelI Prepares radiological area, equipment, contrast materials, and supplies for patients. Prepares patient for x‑ray, explains procedures, transfers patient to table, positions patient, and assists at the end of procedures. Follows prescribed techniques to administer general and specific x‑rays; adjusts equipment, selects proper voltage, current, and exposure time, arranges immobilization and support devices, and selects proper imaging techniques. Develops images in accordance with photographic techniques. Observes patient and machine during procedure, reports unusual occurrences, and records patient’s condition. Maintains supplies, equipment, and required records. Transports and uses mobile x‑ray equipment in patient care area as required. Follows all radiation, patient, and employee safety protocols; adheres to radiation prevention, containment, and control measures. Effectively uses EMR to document patient encounters and access pertinent data and imaging results. Assignment LevelII Performs procedures on patients requiring specialized expertise. Assists radiologists, physicians, and allied health professionals in diagnostic or treatment procedures. Performs diagnostic testing on equipment and general maintenance. Monitors patient and equipment during procedure and reports changes to the appropriate professional. Assists and guides radiographers in a wide variety of x‑ray procedures. Trains and assists radiographers in a wide variety of x‑ray procedures. Plans, schedules, and coordinates day‑to‑day activities to ensure continuous work flow. Supervises radiographers and ancillary personnel assigned to the area. Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment to ensure operational viability. Assignment LevelIII Supervises delivery of radiological services in accordance with established standards and procedures. Recommends changes and improvements to service delivery. Participates in development of training programs for personnel, demonstrating new or revised techniques. May perform radiologic procedures as required. Performs special procedures including diagnostic and interventional radiography (e.g., CT, MRI, mammography). Recommends personnel assignments to coordinate departmental activities and represents the department in interdepartmental operations and meetings. Participates in quality assurance activities, including coordination, control, and maintenance of technical equipment. Coordinates procurement and storage of supplies, making recommendations regarding needs. Performs research and participates in special projects involving equipment evaluation and service delivery. May assume duties of immediate supervisor in their absence on a temporary basis. Minimum Qualifications Assignment LevelIII For Supervisory Assignments: a valid NYSDOH license and current registration to practice diagnostic radiography as a radiologic technologist, plus at least two years of technologist experience at Assignment LevelsI andII, with one year in a supervisory capacity. For Specialized Imaging Assignments: a valid NYSDOH license and registration, plus a current advanced‑level certification for performing these procedures.
