THE ORGANIZATION:
Started in 2012, Volare (formerly Network for Victim Recovery of DC) creates equitable healing and dignified experiences for survivors of crime. We provide free, trauma-informed advocacy, therapeutic, and legal services in conjunction with strategic litigation, policy advocacy, and education to transform existing responses to harm.

THE POSITION:
Volare seeks a full-time licensed Therapist to join our Therapeutic Services team. This individual will provide individual and group therapy to survivors of crime, including those affected by sexual assault, assault, domestic violence, and other forms of trauma.

The ideal candidate imbues their clinical practice with compassion and is committed to providing a safe space for survivors to process their emotions. We are looking for someone who subscribes to the concept of unconditional positive regard — the therapeutic attitude of complete acceptance of a person regardless of their emotional responses, behavior, or circumstances.

This position reports to the Director of Therapeutic Services (Licensed Professional Counselor) and works collaboratively with Volare’s Advocacy and Legal teams to ensure holistic, trauma-informed support for survivors. The position is anticipated to begin as soon as possible.

BENEFITS PACKAGE:
This is a full-time (35 hours per week), FLSA exempt, at-will position with an annual compensation range of $65,000–$80,000 depending on experience. Flexibility & Autonomy

• Unlike private therapy practices, Volare does not bill clients’ insurance to seek payment reimbursement — our Therapists are not required to meet a minimum amount of weekly sessions.

• Schedules are flexible — the Therapist determines their working hours within core business hours.

Supervision Hours

• Volare’s clinical supervision hours count toward licensure requirements for Licensed Graduate Professional Counselors.

Professional Development

• Volare may offer training opportunities in evidence-based treatments such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and cutting edge therapeutic interventions such as the Flash technique.

• Volare assists with continuing education opportunities for Licensed Professional Counselors.

Innovative Programming

• The Therapist has discretion in creating and facilitating psychoeducational or psychosocial support groups.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Conduct assessments and intakes for referred survivors of crime;
• ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​ Provide short-term telehealth and/or in-office therapy sessions to survivors of crime; 
• Ensure therapeutic care is trauma-informed and client-centered;
• Co-facilitate therapy support groups for survivors.

● Collaboration & Referrals

• Work with Volare Advocates and Attorneys to coordinate mental health services and referrals;
• Regularly update Volare’s Comprehensive Therapy Resource Guide.

● Documentation & Reporting

M aintain accurate and timely therapeutic progress notes; ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​ Contribute to grant reporting and quality assurance by tracking program outcomes.

​​​​​​​● Training & Outreach

• Aid in the development and delivery of training for staff and external stakeholders;

  Participate and engage in community outreach initiatives.

● Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required

• Licensed as a mental health counselor in Washington, DC (LGPC or LPC). License must be current and in good standing—applicants who do not meet this qualification will not be considered;

• Access to high-speed internet and ability to maintain a secure, private, and HIPAA-complaint space to use for telehealth sessions;

• Self-starter who learns quickly and works well independently and as a team player;

• Strong sense of self-awareness, exceptional organizational skills, and outstanding attention to detail;

• Comfort learning and utilizing technology systems, including Google Workspace, Efforts-to-Outcomes (ETO), Dialpad, and related platforms;

• Interest in crime victims’ rights, victim services, public interest, social justice, restorative justice, sexual violence services, etc.;

• A reputation for integrity, dependability, sound judgment, and personal accountability.

Preferred
● At least two years of post-graduate experience providing therapy services;
● Experience providing trauma-informed direct services to crime victims;
● Demonstrated commitment to social justice, anti-oppression, and ending power-based violence;
● Demonstrated commitment to assisting marginalized and underserved populations;
● Extensive knowledge of victim services available within the District of Columbia;
● Bilingual fluency in Spanish*.
*Candidates who report fluency and make the final round of interviews will be subject to oral and written proficiency tests.

Such directives may include but are not limited to use of personal protective equipment, health testing (such as Tuberculosis screening), flu and COVID vaccine requirements, and other directives as determined by Volare’s Chief Executive Officer when necessary to keep staff, clients, and partners safe and healthy.
It is anticipated that this position will require a hybrid of in-person work at the Volare office, in court, at the hospital, on-scene, at outreach events, staff meetings, trainings, fundraising events, partnership meetings, or other locations, and telework.
Additionally, this position requires residency within the DC region as defined by the ability to provide therapy in-office as part of the core job function of this role.
