Nurse Technician - 2 East - Full Time/Nights - Req# 2117944121

Overview The Nurse Technician performs various patient care activities and related non-professional services necessary in caring for the personal needs, safety and comfort of the patient and assists in maintenance of a safe and clean environment under the supervision of the Registered Nurse. Duties and Responsibilities Provide patient care which includes accurate observations of patient needs and reporting symptoms and needs to the Licensed Nurse. Maintain a high degree of involvement with patients and family members. Maintain proper body alignment at all times. Assist in providing general routine patient care based on the Registered Nurse’s assessment and plan of care, adhering to policies and procedures. Perform basic patient care tasks such as hygiene, making occupied and unoccupied beds, oral care, peri care, hair care, assist with elimination, feeding and feeding patients when necessary. Assist with patient movement including range of motion, turning patients every 2 hours and positioning them in bed or in a chair when applicable. Transport patients by gurney, bed or wheelchair. Removal and application of restraints. Replace telemetry batteries and patches as requested. Prevent skin breakdown. Document vital signs including pain level and maintain accurate intake and output. Participate in hourly rounding to assess patient needs and safety. Assist in facilitating a quiet environment. Perform procedures related to elimination including Foley care, colostomy care, urostomy care and related appliance management. Perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation as requested and perform Electrocardiograms. Assist with ambulation using assistive devices such as crutches, walkers or gait belts. Care for tubes and drains including Jackson-Pratt, Hemovac and Pleurovac. Use equipment including intermittent compression devices, traction, scales and cast care. Provide surgical skin preparation as applicable. Perform errands to facilitate workflow (e.g., take specimens to lab). Operate technical equipment safely and appropriately. Demonstrate knowledge regarding age-specific needs and behaviors. Document accurately in the electronic medical record, restraint record and belongings list. Demonstrate knowledge of legal aspects of care and of legal documents pertinent to unit/area of care. Knowledge of the computer system in use. Non-Essential Duties Assist in special projects/assignments as needed. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge Knowledge of basic nurse technician skills. Skills Clear and concise communication skills. Skills obtained through completion of a basic nursing aide course or the basic nursing modules in the Registered Nursing or Licensed Vocational Nursing programs at a community college. Abilities Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, clinicians, and other health team professionals. Ability to accept responsibility for accuracy and timely response to emergent and non-emergent requests.
