Description: Unit typically has a nurse to patient ratio of 1:3-4. The unit accommodates adults and geriatrics, with occasional pediatric patients. The majority of patients are swing bed individuals requiring IV antibiotics, therapy, or wound care. Common diagnoses include diabetes, pancreatitis, pneumonia, and more. There is a charge nurse on each shift who does take an assignment. Patient care techs are available on the unit with a ratio of 1:8. Shifts are scheduled from 0630-1900 or 1830-0700. Self-scheduling is allowed with manager approval. Weekend requirements entail working at least every third weekend, with occasional every other weekend shifts. Holiday requirements follow rotation per unit needs. Staff may float to provide backup help if required due to volume surges. The dress code consists of navy blue scrubs. Department-specific orientation consists of two days. Attributes that contribute to a nurse's success in the department include a willingness to assist wherever needed. The unit prides itself on a family feel and a strong teamwork culture within the department and with ancillary departments. Requests for time off should be submitted upfront, with a limitation of seven days or less for the 13-week contract. Additional requests for time off will not be approved after submissions. The cancellation policy allows for cancellations of up to four shifts during a 13-week assignment. The charting system used is EPIC. A BSN is not required. A valid license is necessary for submission. The trauma level and care setting classify as acute. Division: Nursing. Shift notes indicate 12-hour night shifts are required. Required certifications include ACLS, BLS, and PALS.
