Job Title: Chocker Job Description

The Chocker is responsible for safely securing automobiles within transport carriers so they can be moved between terminals without damage. This role focuses on correctly placing chocks and straps on vehicle wheels, ensuring precise vehicle positioning, and removing all securing equipment at the arrival terminal while consistently following safety procedures and using required protective gear.

Responsibilities
  • Secure vehicles within transport carriers by correctly placing and removing chocks on each car wheel.
  • Ensure the precise positioning of automobiles within carriers to maintain safety and prevent damage during transport.
  • Apply chocks and straps to vehicles in the carrier according to established procedures and safety standards.
  • Remove all chocks and straps from vehicles upon arrival at the terminal.
  • Wear and use all required personal protective equipment while working.
  • Take responsibility for personal safety at all times while on the job.
  • Follow written assignment sheets and sign off on completed work using printed forms.
  • Read and interpret operational manuals to perform tasks accurately and safely.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to requests for service and assistance.
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle information with discretion.
  • Work effectively under pressure and tight deadlines, including handling conflict when necessary.
  • Work independently and unsupervised while maintaining productivity and safety standards.
  • Adapt to working in all weather conditions and at varying hours to accommodate train arrivals and departures.

  • Capability to regularly lift and move up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 80 pounds.
  • Willingness and ability to work in environments with moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, and occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in production or general labor environments is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with strapping and securing materials is an advantage.
  • Comfort working alone and unsupervised while maintaining high safety and quality standards.
  • Ability to adapt to odd hours and split shifts, including days, nights, and weekends.
  • Capacity to work every weekend with 1–2 days off during the week.
  • Ability to function effectively in a moderate noise environment.

Work Environment

This role is based in an outdoor and industrial setting around transport carriers and trains, where you will regularly be exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. You may occasionally encounter fumes or airborne particles, and the noise level is usually moderate. Shifts are 6 hours long, starting between 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., scheduled 5–6 days per week, with work required every weekend and 1–2 days off during the week. You must be willing to work in all weather conditions and to accommodate varying arrival and departure times of trains, including odd hours and split shifts that may involve days, nights, and weekends. The role often requires working alone and unsupervised, with a focus on safety and proper use of protective equipment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lorton, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr.
