Position: Clinical Services Specialist Location: Winston Salem, NC Job Id: 440 # of Openings: 1 Summary The Clinical Services Specialist provides effective linkage between the outpatient Counseling Unit, its clinical staff, community partners and potential clients, resulting in client access to appropriate agency and community resources. The Clinical Services Specialist will also manage the referral and intake process for the Strengthening Families Program 7-17 (SFP), an evidence-based, psychoeducational program designed to help parents and kids develop happier family relationships, improve mental health outcomes, and help decrease youth alcohol and drug use, violence, and delinquent behavior. The Clinical Services Specialist engages in networking and provides educational presentations within the community, develops and maintains communication, tracking, reporting, and monitoring systems for the Clinical Services Unit. This position is approximately 97% remote and can expect around 4 hours per month in-person. It requires approximately 8-10 evening hours per month, as family intakes for the SFP often take place between 5-8 PM; these evening hours are remote, Zoom-based appointments. The Clinical Services Specialist manages a high volume of referrals for counseling and the Strengthening Families Program each month. Much of the time will be spent on the phone or Zoom video calls. A private, professional working space at home is required for this role. Essential Functions Counseling/Both Programs Serves as the primary point of contact for referral partners, prospective clients, and community stakeholders. Develops and maintains strong relationships with schools, healthcare providers, social service agencies, and other referral sources. Represents Clinical Services at community meetings, networking events, and outreach activities. Receives referrals for Strengthening Families Program (SFP) and Counseling from the community, engages with referred individuals and referral sources within 3 business days. Screens referrals and inquiries and schedules appointments for Clinical Services Counseling Program and Strengthening Families Program. Provides information regarding service eligibility, insurance participation, sliding fee scale options, and referral alternatives when services are unavailable. Exercises independent judgment in assigning referrals and building caseloads for counselors and interns, considering client needs, clinical appropriateness, service eligibility, therapist expertise, and organizational priorities. Conducts preliminary safety screenings during referral and intake contacts, utilizing professional judgment to assess risk, provide crisis intervention support, engage appropriate supervisors or community resources, and facilitate referrals to emergency services when warranted. Manages wait list for Counseling and SFP. Completes monthly reports, as assigned by the Senior Director. Handles data entry and oversees the management of client information within both internal and external databases. Thoroughly documents every interaction and conversation with both referrers and potential clients for complete record-keeping. Creates and maintains relationships with the Family Services staff and varied programs to create effective internal referral systems to Clinical Services. Attends Clinical staff meetings once per month in person. Works closely with the billing department and Senior Director to ensure client billing is accurate and up to date. Promotes a positive image of the agency by ensuring an understanding of program services available, publicizing activities and accomplishments, and conducting oneself according to a professional code of ethics. Attends monthly committee meetings as assigned by the Senior Director. Maintains an ongoing and updated database of community resources and keeps the Clinical Services unit informed on relevant resources and programs available to clients. Assures quality service by being knowledgeable of and enforcing rules, regulations, legal requirements, and maintaining documentation necessary for programming and accountability, and by evaluating program effectiveness. Assists in special tasks by assignment and maintains a flexible work schedule. Encourages a harmonious work environment by use of effective communication skills. Maintains professional competency by participating in current field related training and development. Attends relevant community events and meetings as a representative of our agency/division and communicates information learned with Clinical Services division. Acts in such a way as to encourage and maintain high morale among staff members. Performs such other duties as incumbent upon the position and as assigned. Strengthening Families Program Conducts program intakes, typically via Zoom. Completes a comprehensive write-up and provides recommendations to the Senior Director regarding the suitability of the family for the program, along with any identified concerns. Conducts program fidelity observations of SFP sessions throughout the year and reports findings and recommendations to the Senior Director. Develops and facilitates training, coaching, and professional development opportunities for the Strengthening Families Coach team to strengthen family engagement practices, enhance program effectiveness, and support continuous learning. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required Associate's degree or equivalent experience in human services, healthcare administration, behavioral health, or related field. Five years of professional experience in behavioral health, healthcare, human services, care coordination, intake, case management, program administration, or a related field. Experience working directly with individuals and families from diverse backgrounds. Experience managing multiple priorities while maintaining accurate documentation and confidentiality. Articulates ideas clearly (both written and orally), listens accurately, and establishes rapport with people from a variety of backgrounds. Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with knowledge of MS Office applications, especially Microsoft Excel. A confidential home office environment and reliable internet connection suitable for video conferencing. Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written. Maintains dignity and self-control in stressful situations. Maintains confidentiality at all times. Preferred Bilingual (Spanish). Bachelor’s degree in social work, Psychology or related human services field. Expected Hours of Work Full-time position Monday – Friday, 37.5 hours per week. Daily hours and work location to be set with supervisor. This position allows approximately 97% remote work with supervisor approval based upon quality fulfilment of tasks/job roles. Work Environment and Physical Requirements Maintains physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include walking, bending, stretching, lifting, standing or sitting for extended periods of time, operating assigned equipment. Ability to work flexible/overtime hours, as needed. Requires valid NC driver’s license and ability to travel between various agency sites and community resources.
