To perform a variety of duties relative to the investigation, conciliation, and disposition of employment complaints filed against state, local, and municipal agencies and the private sector based upon South Carolina Human Affairs Law.
Responsibilities of the EEO Employment Investigator:
- Under limited supervision collects evidence, analyzes cases, issues relevant information, legal theories, and processes and recommends disposition of employment discrimination complaints. Counsels' complaints respondents and attorneys to the Commission's procedures and requirements, standards of proof, relief and relevant State and Federal laws, prepares investigative requests for data relevant documents, conducts formal interviews of witnesses and parties to a complaint, conducts on-site investigations, analyze complainants and respondents defense and all pertinent record, documents and other evidence to determine whether a complaint has merit, prepares analysis of information and letters of determination to be issued by Commission, determine potential respondent liabilities, recommends corrective action, negotiates and prepares pre-determination settlements between complaint and respondent, drafts conciliation agreements embodying provisions necessary to remedy discriminatory employment practices in accordance with applicable State and Federal laws, and judicial precedents governing damages and relief. Determines the need for and prepares amended complaints.
- Under limited supervision completes the investigation of cases within 180 days from date of assignment. Maintains necessary knowledge of State and Federal laws.
- Completes assigned cases according to established standards. Provides information, advice, and assistance regarding individual's rights, general provisions, and obligations to respondents, complainants, various groups, and organizations to ensure compliance of relevant laws.
Minimum Requirements:
- A bachelor's degree and relevant program experience.

- Office environment with little exposure to environmental/weather conditions.
- Physical demands are restricted to office work requiring the movement or lifting of items weighing up to 20 lbs.
- Occasional local travel required.
- Requires ability to work under a degree of stress related to duties that require attention and deadlines.
