Senior Director of Philanthropy

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Senior Director of Philanthropy (Full-Time, Exempt) provides overall leadership, strategic direction, and management for Kids Cancer Alliance's fundraising efforts to support the organization's mission. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, this position oversees a growing budget of approximately $2.5M with a trajectory toward $3M, and directly supervises a small team. Working closely with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and volunteer committees, the Senior Director of Philanthropy develops and executes strategies across annual giving, major gifts, planned gifts, corporate giving, grants, special events, and capital campaigns. This role creates compelling opportunities for donor support and ensures strong stewardship to provide a rewarding experience for all donors. This is an external search; internal candidates are not being considered.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Using best practices and creative approaches to engage supporters, the Senior Director of Philanthropy develops and oversees the successful execution of an annual development plan for the organization. The majority of time and responsibility is focused on current donor and donor prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, and closure of gifts and grants from individuals, corporations, and foundations needed to fulfill annual operating budget revenue requirements. Approximately 2-4 hours per week will typically be dedicated to calling donors and donor prospects or contacting via email and personal letters, with the goal of scheduling face-to-face meetings leading to gift solicitation. At least 5+ hours per week would be spent on direct donor and donor prospect meetings. Researches public and private grant agencies, foundations, and corporate funders to identify potential sources of funding. Coordinates and/or prepares, submits, and serves as liaison with the program team for grant requests. Ensures all applicable grant reporting is completed accurately and submitted in a timely manner. Plans, coordinates, and runs annual fund drives, including face-to-face solicitation, calls, direct mail solicitations, e-giving, and peer-to-peer campaigns. Directly supervises assigned staff, providing leadership, support, and performance management to ensure successful execution of responsibilities within the development and events function. Directs strategic fundraising initiatives; recommends policy or strategy changes to executive leadership. Creates and manages the department budget for approval; reviews monthly financial reports and maintains cost-effective management of the philanthropy function. Oversees the management of KCA’s donor CRM system (currently Neon CRM), including donor profile creation, tracking, reporting, and timely gift acknowledgement. Serves as staff liaison to relevant volunteer committees. Approves communication materials (social media, flyers, emails) within organizational brand guidelines. Works closely with the Kids Cancer Alliance Board of Directors, including supporting the Philanthropy Committee, and ensures timely reporting on goals and progress. Participates in community events, networking opportunities, and external engagement to grow KCA’s visibility and donor base. Other duties as assigned and appropriate.

COMPENSATION:

Annual salary range of $80,000 - $90,000 (based on experience), potential to earn a metric-based incentive bonus, and a competitive benefits package. This is a full-time salaried, exempt position.
