Phlebotomist

This is a contract job opportunity. Potential for permanent. Position: Phlebotomist 5023 Location: Oceanside, CA Schedule: 6 AM to 6 PM, Monday–Friday. 8‑hour shift. Depending on location covering, may need to start as early as 6 AM or work as late as 6 PM. Also will need to rotate weekends, may only need to cover just one weekend per month. Projected duration: 3 months Job code: CVDJP00035023 Pay rate: $20.25 per hour Benefits are available. Will float when needed to PSC locations in Vista, CA and Encinitas, CA. Mileage expenses paid. Requires a clean driving record and reliable transportation. Summary The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. Position Responsibilities Experience performing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontamination, and updating patient information. Collect and store specimens according to established procedures. Properly explain in a clear but courteous manner the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal) as required. Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Fully understand all physicians' orders. Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order. Check all test requisitions or computer label against script to ensure 100% correct. Package specimens for transport. Store specimen samples according to required temperature, place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately label, and follow different procedures as outlined by protocols deemed necessary for transport to maintain specimen integrity. Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. Attend annual department trainings. Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries. Minimum Qualifications Valid phlebotomy certification for the state where you will be employed, as required in some states. Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast‑paced lab or hospital setting. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
